Georgia Senate Race Needs Our Support
November 25, 2008
By Steve Strang
I'm spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my family in North Georgia, where all the trees are bare in the mountains, and there was ice in the bird bath when we woke up today.
Here in Georgia the focus is on a run-off election next Tuesday for the U.S. Senate between Saxby Chambliss, the incumbent, who is a Republican, and Jim Martin, a Democrat, who local political pundits predict will vote with Barack Obama on nearly every issue.
I haven't met Chambliss personally, but he spent half an hour with our Georgia delegation last July at the Christians United for Israel national Washington/Israel Summit. I know he is a strong supporter of Israel and strong on traditional values. We need him in Washington.
But there's another reason--if Chambliss loses and the recount in Minnesota shows that Republican Norm Coleman lost his race (he's ahead by only 200 votes), then Obama will have a filibuster-proof majority of 60 Democrats in the Senate. With many important issues coming up soon for a vote, we can't give Obama a majority to get laws passed.
I received an e-mail recently from Gov. Mike Huckabee, who has been campaigning for Chambliss in Georgia. Here are his thoughts:
“As you probably are aware, Senator Saxby Chambliss is facing a runoff election on December 2. The Democrats have made it clear they will do everything they can to defeat Senator Chambliss in the runoff election. They still haven't given up their dream of a filibuster-proof, 60-Senate-seat majority. We must make certain they are not successful. But even more important than that, we must do all that we can to help a strong conservative Republican Senator return to Washington.
Since being elected to the Senate in 2002, Saxby has worked hard every day to support conservative principles. He is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Rules Committee, and he is the ranking Republican member of the Senate committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Saxby is known and has always been known as a strong advocate for the United States Military. He is also a very strong supporter of the FairTax. During a debate with his Democrat opponent, Senator Chambliss said the FairTax ‘lets consumers determine their tax rate based on their consumption levels. The FairTax is what it says it is--it's fair.”
Below I've cut and pasted other e-mails I've received, including some that contain information on how you can contribute, as I have.
I'm not affiliated with any political group and haven't talked to anyone in Chambliss' campaign. I just want to make it easy for you to contribute by giving you links.
I hope you'll forward this to any family or friends you have who are registered voters in Georgia.
Chambliss failed to get the required 50 percent plus one vote by only 8000 votes. But considering the efforts of the Democrats, plus the fact that runoff elections usually have lower turnouts, I believe it’s clear that this election is up for grabs. That's why I'm helping by sending information out to my circle of influence.
Be sure to leave your comments on my blog.

The latest FEC filings show that as of November 12 for the special Georgia Senate race, liberal Democrat Jim Martin has raised $2.4 million.
Meanwhile, Republican Saxby Chambliss, who is fighting desperately to keep his Senate seat out of Barack Obama's control, has raised $1.4 million--that's $700,000 less than Martin!
You may recall that I warned you that the Democrats were going to try to “snatch” this usually safe Republican seat from us.
They have a simple plan, the same one Obama used to beat Hillary and McCain.
First, they outspend their opponent.
Second, they “turn out” the African-American vote and other special interests that make up the Democratic party base.
Their fundraising success shows they have activated their playbook.
We have already reported that Obama sent his top 100 campaign operatives into Georgia to defeat Chambliss.
The Atlanta Constitution Journal reports this weekend that the ultra-left NARAL (the National Abortion Rights Action League), liberal environmental and union groups, and Chuck Schumer's Senatorial Committee have poured close to $2 million more into the Georgia race.
It is urgent we fight back--help us by Going Here Now
The Democrats know that if they win the Georgia seat, Obama will have the 60 votes he needs in the Senate to push through his radical agenda: increase personal and capital gains taxes, end talk radio through a new “Fairness Doctrine” and give favored groups like Detroit automakers and their unions tens of billions in bailout money.
Make no mistake about it. We are in trouble in Georgia.
The New York Times reported this weekend that because the Georgia race is so close, Republicans “are on the brink of losing their ability to use Senate procedure to thwart Democrats or force them into negotiations.”
On this point they are right. The only thing stopping Obama and the Democrats from ramming through their leftwing agenda is the Georgia Senate race.
Dick Morris, the Fox News analyst, says the National Republican Trust PAC is the #1 group fighting to keep Georgia in Republican hands and the Senate from Obama's control.

P.S. Barack Obama won't go to Georgia to campaign for Martin, but he is airing radio ads on his behalf. These are targeted ads to get out the vote for Martin. Obama knows Georgians don't like his liberal agenda. That's why our TV ads are focusing on Obama and how Martin will help his radical agenda. United Christians has a Federal PAC that is committed to helping keep Sen. Chambliss, one of our own, in the US Senate. One can contribute by visiting this link: http://www.unitedchristiansofflorida.com/pages.asp?pageid=34242
In the general election, United Christians had over 100,000 people visit their website to find out more information about candidates and the FL Marriage Amendment. This I believe was part of steering success for the Marriage Amendment amongst undecideds. Now we have the chance to keep a strong Senate seat and not allow the Dems to have total autonomy over the legislative process.

I supported Barack Obama during the presidential election because he was certainly the better candidate. I saw President Obama enlist the prayers of the saints. For the senate race, I am supporting Chambliss. Chambliss holds fast to our Christian values and has enlisted the support of fellow Christians. He can make changes, to the abortion code, and prevent gay marriage from going to the federal level. These are things that Barack Obama cannot do by himself. Chambliss has my full support.

I am Scottish, so don't vote in your elections; however I have always been surprised to find so many American evangelical Christians who seem to think its unchristian to vote other than Republican. I'm glad to report, however, that since Obama I am now discovering democratic evangelicals!
It seems to me that politics is about so many more issues than religion, and while knowing a person's faith is informing their practice is reassuring, it's also good to realise that it's just as possible to act out faith with a democrat label as it is with a republican label, and possibly with a more finely tuned social conscience too!

It's Senator Norm Coleman who's in a tight senate recount race against Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota, not Carlson.

Did you learn anything from your blogs during the election. God is in control of the democrats and the republican. I am not affilated to any party. I voted Republican and democrat in this election. You make it seem as if All democrats are evil and only Republicans are Godly. Because one is a Part of the republican party does not make them a God fearing Holy Ghost filled born again beliver. Why should every one be in your favor, like you know what's best for The United States. How about you run for president in 2012 and run the country. God has a purpose for all man kind you can never imagine how he does things, he takes the foolish things to conform the wise.

And thus arrives the announcement of the formal affiliation between Charisma and the Republican Party and its explicit southern racial policies. All fear, all the time. Vote for the candidate who favors golf (at whites-only clubs, no less) over church, who could not take the time to serve his country, as did Senator Cleland, who was rewarded for the loss of his limbs in Vietnam by Chambliss' terrorist ads, or Jim Martin, whose daughter was kidnapped, who also served in Vietnam, and who is now called "soft on crime". Be afraid of the "black vote" says the Republican campaigner. Chambliss has nothing to recommend himself as or to a disciple of Jesus, except perhaps the tax issue which has now been elevated to the prime issue in the evangelical world. I am sure that there will be later posters who claim that being non-Republican is worthy of excommunication. Perhaps they can address the issues instead of focusing their attack on me.

You are truly unbelievable. The way you refer to republicans as "us", as opposed to democrats, who I assume are "them". Saxby Chambliss used the most despicable tactics imaginable to get his senate seat. He ran commercials and ads portraying a "real" American hero as weak on defense and terrorism. His opponent was Max Cleland, triple amputee who lost those limbs defending this country that you claim to love. Saxby Chambliss was a chicken hawk. You know, the guys who found a way to avoid service to their country, but have all the audacity to tear down those who did. I'm not familiar with his current opponent, but I hope Chambliss loses just on the grounds of his disgusting campaign tactics. We do not need this in our government, and I don't think God is on his side as you seem to insinuate.

I'm an evangelical charismatic, and I usually vote for the Democrats. This time I voted for Barack Obama as well as for a straight Democratic ticket. I'm pro life, but I think there are better solutions to the abortion problems than just the law. Also, I don't believe in voting based on just one or two issues. Over all, I see the Democratic platform supporting more of Jesus's ideals. For example:
Feed the poor
Take care of the widows and all the less fortunate
Be kind to aliens in your land
(this is repeated over and over again, especially in the Old Testament).
Also...woe to the rich man who doesn't share...
That said, I don't believe that either party -- Democratic or Republican -- is particulary Godly. I think we have the responsiblity to follow the law of the land by being educated about politics and by voting, but our God is not the Government. God should come first. We need to pray to Him for the best outcome in elections. We shouldn't try to push our own agenda. God is in control.

Mr Strang;
Good grief, didn't you learn anything from the many comments left under your previous political commentaries of the last 2 months?
Christians are tired of being told who to vote for, support politically, and of being manipulated by voices like yours, who make claims of:
quote...
"not being affiliated with any political group"
end quote...
When its obvious you are affiliated! At least in your heart...
Instead of worrying so much about legislating biblical morality to a lost people who will never accept it, why not spend your time and energy in preaching the Gospel to these same people, so that they have a 'heart change'
Cleansing the outside of the cup while leaving the inside dirty, is never going to be the answer.
Jesus knew it--why don't you Mr Strang?

I live in Georgia and have to endure all the political ads by both parties of the subject Senate race. (I thank God that'll be over come December 2nd.) But I noted that Jim Martin (the Democrat) ran negative ad after negative ad before Saxby Chambliss ran the first one. (That tells me something.) I also noted that for weeks, maybe months, the Democrats outside the state of Georgia (the Senatorial Committee) tried to influence the Georgia race long before out-of-state Republicans became involved. (That also tells me something.) Whatever, we can pray and not vote and leave it all to a God who doesn't use people. . . . But I don't believe such a God exists. GOD USES PEOPLE. That's why we must pray AND act (including voting). For me, I will vote for the party that espouses policies most in line with God's word, especially when it comes to the most innocent among us, i.e., children in the womb (something former democratic senator Max Cleland would not do, voting as he did to support the heinous procedure of partial-birth abortion), and I will vote for the party that espouses policies most in line with a God-sanctioned institution, i.e., marriage between one man and one woman. I do not care if the party espousing these policies is Democratic or Republican, it just so happens that at this time in history it is the Republican Party.

Aren't there any standards for discipleship any more beyond the mere (that is, talk without action or sincerity) "profession of being "pro-life"? If Mr. Chambliss is Mr. Strang's idea of what we used to call "Promise Keepers", a genuine Christian man, then there is no standard left.

Steven Strang I honestly have to wonder if you are blind to the last election. You, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and other well known evangelicals think you have a monopoly on God and His people. Has Chambliss stood up and declared that he is born again and is running on those terms. Isn't he as slanderous in his commercials as Jim Martin. What is wrong with you people? I have never been more greived as I listened to this group of Christians lamblast another human being as you did the President -elect? My assignment and your is to go tell everyman of Jesus' love and that He is coming again to judge the world of their sins. It will not be about the elections? Have you taken the time to witness to these guys about the Lord? You can earn all you can for them and they do not know the Lord they will be lost without Christ!!! You all need to STOP!!!!

To all brethren who have posted those nasty comments about Mr. Strang:
I am sorry BUT I have to scream, SHAME ON YOU! Are you so dense? Don't you know that Mr Strang in asking for your support for this GOP candidate in Georgia, he is really asking for your support for the salvation and deliverance of the whole US and the world from the evil stranglehold of the Democrats? This is what he has been screaming all along during the Presidential campaign - the Republicans are the saints, the Democrats are twin brothers of Lucifer!
But the Americans didn't listen to him or to Dr. Dobson or to the cabal of Colorado Springs prophets and intercessors! They voted for Obama anyway - and now Pastor Dutch Sheets is saying we will have a deluge of judgments because 53% of the American voters didn't listen to them - the voice of God Almighty! Of course it didn't matter that the McCain's campaign ran the most negative and unChristian ads full of fear and venom! And many evangelical leaders declared of negative things against Obama, like that letter from Focus on the Family. Those didn't matter because the GOP is God's party! Everybody else is demonic!
So this time, I hope Georgia evangelicals listen just for once - not so much to save the state from utter destruction if the Democrat wins BUT at least to save whatever is left of the tattered credibility of evangelical campaigners like our beloved brother, Mr Strang.
To the brother who wrote of a "affiliation of Charisma with Republican" - I guess that's very very unfair. Of course, many really feel that Charisma has become the promo brochure of the Republicans! But so what? We are a free market economy and the owner can use his goods or magazine anyway he likes legally. Mr Strang has always been advocating divine Republican ideas and promoting GOP candidates, what else is new?
To the brother who Mr Strang as "have you ever learned," - I guess, he is missing the point! Haven't you heard of "burning passion." "fierce determination," "Try and try till you die!" - what televangelist you are watching my brother? Don't you realize Mr Strang is giving us a powerful lesson on "Never give up!" and "Never say die!" that "anyone with a vision is unstoppable?" So maybe this time this GOP candidate will make it, thanks to the persevering evangelicals!
Mr Strang, thanks so much for demonstrating to us this traits - now I know why you are so successful. God bless you!

Mr. Strang, I have to honestly tell you, your articles ALWAYS have me completely entertained! They are just so funny! I don't know how you come up with that stuff. It's NO WONDER you have a successful publishing company! What you write is hysterical! You are every bit as funny as those guys who write for the "creation science" organizations, such as Answers in Genesis and The Institute for Creation Research! Absolutely jaw-dropping laugh-out-loud material! Deliberate ignorance, as it turns out, is pure gold comedy!
One of my favorite lines you put into this last one is, "I'm not affiliated with any political group"!!! OH MAN!!! I almost fell right on the floor when I read that! HAHAHAHAHA
Anyway, I wanted to congratulate you. I always look forward to your writings. They make an otherwise gloomy day more amusing! I wondered at one point how terrifying it might ever be if someone actually took anything you write seriously. You know, like how people take comedian Rush Limbaugh seriously. Now THOSE are some dangerous knuckle-dragging people to have wandering about! But I'm optimistic. I think everybody can see your obvious purposeful nincompoopery!
Thank you and please don't stop writing. I'll be disappointed if you do.
