Strang Report: Aftermath of the Election

Aftermath of the Election

November 13, 2008
By Steve Strang

For those of us who believe the Bible and believe in traditional values, the most encouraging thing to come out of the recent presidential election was the passage of state constitutional amendments in Florida, Arizona and California that define marriage as between one man and one woman. The passage of these amendments shows that the country is not totally going to the left because there were quite a number of Obama supporters who voted for traditional marriage.

The reaction, however--in California especially--has been rather extreme from radical gay groups who are trying to demonize those who stood for traditional marriage. They're voicing their anger and criticism with the help of the media, who is making them out to be victims.

From time to time I like to share things that come across my desk. Today I’m passing along an article by Brian Fitzpatrick, in which he articulates very well exactly what's happening in California. You’ll find it further down in this blog.

I’m also sharing what Larry Stockstill, senior pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge, La., wrote on his blog a few days ago. His comments are from a more spiritual point of view and look at the political situation as it relates to the larger body of Christ. Stockstill helps us to see some of the good things that have come out of this election and gives some perspectives that I think are important. You can read his comments by clicking here or by going to the continuation page of this blog.

I invite you to forward this e-newsletter to friends and to encourage them to subscribe. There are a few thousand of you who receive the Strang Report because you're on my personal Outlook contact list. We encourage you to subscribe to it because I won't send it to my contact list perpetually. I'm happy to say that the list of subscribers has grown from 38 last January to 7,746 in October, not including my personal contact list.

As always, you're invited to add your comments below. It is interesting for me to see that some of my newsletters have received only a few blog comments, but the one I wrote on Sarah Palin on October 2 has received 1,452 comments as of today. The average number of comments is around 128 per blog. That just shows you're reading these reports—and I appreciate your responses, even when you don't agree with me.

Celebration and Concern
November 11, 2008
By Larry Stockstill

Solomon, the wisest king in history, had a problem: “one baby and two mothers.” He called for a sword and the real mother begged to keep the baby alive. The other woman argued to cut the baby in half and give each mother a piece. The Presidential election of 2008 has been just such a dilemma for the body of Christ. Honest, well-meaning Christians have differed on political direction for America. Where are we and where do we go from here?

CELEBRATION!

Some great things that are cause for celebration have occurred in the last few days since last Tuesday’s results of Barack Obama’s election were final:

1. Senator Obama, in looking this week for a Presidential “dog” for his children, jokingly referred to himself when he said, “I hope they don’t get a mutt like me!” This relaxed, casual reference to his African father and white mother shows his comfort with his identity and race. After all, what is race in the sight of God but something wonderful and beautiful? God delights in our colors and kinds, our flavors and strengths. As a missionary in Nigeria at 23 and in my 25 years of pastoring a multi-racial church, I have spent most of my adult life fighting not only “racism” but “racial strife.” Perhaps the long, cold winter of stereotypes is coming to an end.

2. It took millions of white voters to elect Senator Obama. This has amazed and thrilled to tears the small minority of black Americans and given them hope that “we can work together.” As I watched President Bush host Mr. and Mrs. Obama in the White House yesterday, I rejoiced in how the transition is early and hope is high. There was a “man of color” in the Oval Office! Perhaps the sense of hardened racial suspicion is starting to give way.

3. The cultures of the world rejoiced again in America. Celebrations from Indonesia to Kenya hailed a new spirit and face for the land of the free and home of the brave. Our enemies were in consternation and our friends were celebrating! Perhaps a new era of favor for Americans worldwide is replacing the anger and resentment I often feel when traveling the world and world missions will benefit.

CONCERN:

1. “PRAY”

a. FOREIGN POLICY: This new President has already been “called out” by Russia and other enemies. He will certainly be immediately tested for his resolve to face down those who only understand force and who have stated their desire is to conquer and rule the world.
b. ECONOMY: He certainly has his plate full here! America and the entire world seem on the edge of recession or outright collapse. Millions are hurting and need immediate help. However, by many Senator Obama is being looked to as an economic “Messiah” who will immediately lower their monthly payments, raise their income, cover all their insurance needs and improve gas prices all in the first 100 days! His ambitious economic agenda will take years, not months. In addition, NO PRESIDENT CAN REMOVE A CORRECTIVE JUDGMENT FROM GOD, and if America is facing discipline (as I believe is beginning) we must pray for mercy and repentance or certainly no plan by man will work.
c. MORALITY: In areas of morality, the church is called to be “prophetic” (as John the Baptist was with Herod) and not “political.” This is true regardless of who it is, or we could be following a man into the position of becoming God’s enemy. It is my humble opinion that Senator Obama is on the wrong side of the abortion, stem cell, and gay rights agenda. He stated in the debates that his Supreme Court appointments will uphold Roe v. Wade. His transition staff is preparing, on his first day in office, to remove all restrictions to abortion now in place as executive orders. His stated position is that he opposes gay marriage, and yet he opposed “Proposition 8,” the marriage amendment that amazingly passed in California 52% to 48% limiting marriage to “a man and a woman.” This legitimate election stated the will of the people, yet this past weekend over 20,000 angry homosexuals protested in the streets (1000 of them picketed Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church because he supported proposition 8). This is moral chaos, and we must pray that our new leader’s eyes be opened to the moral dangers of these positions. God can change his heart and show him that if the judgment of God comes upon our economy it will “trump” the best minds in Washington and their bailouts.

2. “STAY”
a. Christians need to stay together. Lifetime relationships in the body of Christ cannot be challenged by an election. We are one body, indivisible by race, color, or economic circumstances.
b. In times of shaking, stability is what is needed. I have lived long enough to see spiritual and political leaders, revivals, Y2K, electronic marvels, foreign enemies, music, plaid pants and platform shoes all come and go. It is usually the weak and immature who yell the loudest while the mature and seasoned respond and don’t react. Relax, it’s going to be fine.

3. “OBEY”
a. NEVER lose sight of the Great Commission. Jesus did not command us to establish a party or a person. He told us to “go and make disciples.” No political party or election will solve America’s problems: only a revival. I believe 2009 is the “Year of the Harvest” as confirmed by a fellow pastor in Chicago who has seen over 2,500 souls come to Christ in the last three weekends.
b. We are called to our specific task and function in the Body of Christ and that is all you will be judged for in eternity. Be busy about that work while fervently praying for our desperate political and economic situation in America. That’s something you CAN do to change the situation.

The “one baby” is the “one Body” of Christ. Those who are not mature about that “baby” will rush in to divide it and give a “piece” to each party. The result will be to kill the beautiful body of Christ in the process. The “real mother” (faithful American Christians) will beg for mercy, unity, and wisdom from the King for the baby to live. Get on your knees, believer, and cry out for the Body of Christ to live through this. We WILL “pray together, stay together, and obey together.”

“Put your sword away.”

Media Have a Proposition for Calif. Churches: You're Bigots

Brian Fitzpatrick
Tuesday, November 11, 2008

The liberal media worked overtime against California’s marriage amendment, Proposition 8, which the voters passed 52 to 48 percent. After the Nov. 4 vote, the media quickly jettisoned professional objectivity--and respect for democracy-- to spin a yarn about the pain of victimhood. Now they are working to elevate angry gay protesters who are vilifying opponents and targeting churches.

As reported by CMI’s Colleen Raezler, ABC, NBC and CBS aired a total of 13 news stories on Prop. 8 in the five days following the vote. Six of the stories, nearly half, emphasized the reactions of the roughly 18,000 same-sex couples whose California “marriages” have been invalidated. Only four Prop. 8 supporters made it on air, compared to 15 opponents. None of the networks could spare even 15 seconds of precious air time to explain why keeping intact the foundational institution of human society might be a good idea.

The worst example we’ve seen of TV reporting on Prop. 8 protests came from the local CBS station in Palm Springs, Calif. On the grounds of City Hall, furious “gay” protesters knocked a Christian cross out of an elderly woman’s hands and stomped on it. The woman remained calm and collected. When reporter Kimberly Chang tried to interview her, protesters screamed and blocked the camera with their signs. Hilariously, the station identified the victimized woman as “Phyllis Burgess, Involved in Prop 8 Rally Altercation.” That’s like saying Poland was involved in a border altercation with Nazi Germany. In a masterpiece of moral equivalence, CBS anchor Kris Long told viewers, “There’s a lot of anger and a lot of hate, quite honestly, on both sides.”

Print journalists have more freedom, time and space than their broadcast colleagues, so they should have produced a more balanced account of the Prop. 8 controversy. They did, for roughly 48 hours.

Initial press reports last Wednesday and Thursday included statements by Prop. 8 supporters and the vital fact that a 70-30 majority of African-American voters pushed Prop. 8 over the top. By Friday, Nov. 7, however, news reports focused on “civil rights” street theater by fuming Prop. 8 protesters. The villains of the piece, Catholics, evangelical Protestants and especially Mormons, no longer were allowed to explain their views or even to defend themselves against ugly charges of bigotry. The pivotal support of black voters quickly dropped out of the story.

Newsrooms apparently followed the lead of the editorial pages. A Nov. 6 New York Times editorial condemned “the ugly outcome of these ballot fights,” referring to votes in three states--California, Florida and Arizona--to uphold one man-one woman marriage. According to the Times, “the immediate impact of Tuesday’s rights-shredding exercise is to underscore the danger of allowing the ballot box to be used to take away people’s fundamental rights.”

In this editorial, the Times broke new ground in political philosophy. Who needs all that Founding Fathers blather about government requiring the consent of the governed when razor-thin 4-3 judicial majorities are creating new human “rights?” Maybe America needs some new rules regarding court-concocted “rights.” When a court decides to override public opinion and thumb its nose at the moral order created by nature’s God, shouldn’t we require at least a 5-2 majority? But I digress.

The Chicago Sun-Times editorial board chimed in on Nov. 7, describing popular support for one man-one woman marriage as “discrimination and nonsense.” The New York Times ran seven letters to the editor on Prop. 8 – six by opponents.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Los Angeles Times posted a story headlined “Anti-Prop. 8 protests spring up in California.” A photo showed angry protesters waving signs accusing Mormons of “hatred,” and proclaiming “I am a second class citizen.” The Times quoted several speakers at an anti-Prop. 8 rally, including a woman who called traditional marriage supporters “bigots, bigots, bigots.” Ignoring minimal standards of decency, not to mention journalist ethics, the Times gave Prop. 8 supporters no opportunity defend their honor.

A Nov. 10 AP/New York Times story, “In California, More Protests Over a Vote On Marriage,” focused on 1,000 protesters gathered Sunday outside Saddleback Church, the evangelical Protestant megachurch pastored by Rick Warren. The story described protesters as “advocates of equal rights for gay people.” A “volunteer” from the Human Rights Campaign, a gay pressure group, accused Saddleback of spreading “misinformation” and telling “obvious lies.”

The reporter didn’t try very hard to allow Saddleback to respond: “A message for comment left at the church’s main office, which was closed on Sunday, was not immediately returned.”

A secular reporter can be forgiven for not knowing that Christian church offices are usually closed on Sundays. But shouldn’t he have learned, somewhere along the line, that churches themselves are open for business? The reporter was on the Saddleback campus. If he had bothered to peek through the windows, he surely would have seen a few people milling about. Did it not occur to this intrepid soul to walk into the church and ask Pastor Warren to reply?

Perhaps he was too busy bonding with those angry protesters.

Pastor Stockstill, I believe, misquoted President-Elect Obama. I don't think he said "I hope they don't get a mutt like me." As I recall, he said that if they got the puppy from a shelter then they'll probably get, or end up with, "a mutt like me." Why would Obama say he hoped they didn't get a mutt like him - there is nothing wrong with being multi-racial, or bi-racial, or any other combination?

It might be worthwhile to check to see whether Mr. Stockstill's or my recollection of what Obama actually said is correct.

    Thanks.

    Daly

As usual, Daly, our resident Canadian wise man, is overwrought.

Read Stockstill's comments in context: they are a compliment to Obama. Sheesh.

Just give it a rest, Daly. No, Stockstill did not quote him precisely, but your's is the greater error, trying to make something negative of Stockstill's positive compliment.

"With respect to the dog, this is a major issue. I think it's generated more interest on our website than just about anything. We have -- we have two criteria that have to be reconciled. One is that Malia is allergic, so it has to be hypo-allergenic. There are a number of breeds that are hypo-allergenic. On the other hand, our preference would be to get a shelter dog. But obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts, like me. So the -- so, whether we're going to be able to balance those two things, I think, is a pressing issue on the Obama household." --- from the official transcript, November 7, 2008

I have now checked the mutt quote attributed to President-Elect Obama, and made at his first news conference last week. The quote below is from The Washington Post.

    Mr. Obama:

"We have two criteria that have to be reconciled. One is that Malia is allergic, so it has to be hypoallergenic," he said. "On the other hand, our preference would be to get a shelter dog, but a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me."

That conveys a very different meaning from some of the meanings that could be attributed to the misquote used by Pastor Stockstill.

Being a mutt myself, combining European and Ojibway heritage, I cannot imagine why anyone would say "I hope they don't get a mutt like me."

Daly should be ever bit as concerned about President-elect Obama's accuracy, of lack thereof.

Here is what he said (EXACTLY what he said) about former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

"PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA: Let me list those off. In terms of speaking to former presidents, I have spoken to all of them that are living. Obviously, President Clinton. I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances. (Laughter.)"

Nancy Reagan, to her discredit, consulted an astrologer. She never had seances.

ABC News reporter Jack Tapper wrote this:

"Incidentally, Nancy Reagan never held a séance at the White House, though she was reported to have consulted with an astrologer when planning her husband's schedules. It was Mary Todd Lincoln who regularly held séances.

"When she was first lady, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., worked with spiritual adviser Jean Houston to access an 'Eleanor Roosevelt-like consciousness' from within her own psyche. Clinton wrote in a column that Roosevelt 'usually responds by telling me to buck up, or at least to grow skin as thick as a rhinoceros.'"

Perhaps Daly can send some his exchange rate-inferior, multi-colored Canadian dollars to help President-elect maintain a battery of teleprompters.

You can see how he --- and his adoring public --- suffers when he speaks extemporaneously.

Daly now softens his alarm about Stockstill's quote.

    He says at 3:32 pm:

"That conveys a very different meaning from some of the meanings that COULD BE attributed to the misquote used by Pastor Stockstill." (emphasis is mine)

Any doubt about Pastor Stockstill's meaning is erased when his context is considered.

They do encourage reading comprehension in Canada, don't they, Daly?

We test for it down here.

    Today, you failed your test.

It is ironic that a poster who chooses to remain anonymous makes the kind of comment "Tired of Daly" makes.

I am not overwrought, at all, and the language of my first post was very tentative because I was going by memory, a point I made very clear. Then I made the effort to check what was said, and wrote a second post.

I do not believe it is an error at all, let along "the greater error" to point out an inaccuracy in a quote. I have no doubt about Pastor Stockstill's good intentions, so "Tired of Daly" and I agree on that.

Apart from accuracy, my concern is that it is easier to read into Mr. Stockstill's version of the quote negative meanings that neither he nor Mr. Obama ever intended. It speaks to the credibility of Charisma and Christians if inaccuracies in quoting others are swept away as "TOD" does in his post.

And yes I am a Canadian - a Canadian Christian. The wise man attribute is purely in the imagination of "Tired of Daly!"

Ben from Idaho uses the tactic of switching the subject, and he talks about Mr. Obama's unfortunate comment about Nancy Reagan having a seance.

Ben and I both agree that Mr. Obama made an inaccurate statement.

What Ben does not say is that Mr. Obama had a telephone conversation with Mrs. Reagan during which he apologized for the comment.

Then again, there's a gratuitous reference to my being Canadian, and a slam at our currency. How that is relevant, I do not know.

Marvin says I soften my words in the second post, and uses the fact I wrote the word "could" in the first post. What word would he have me write?

Could is soft - it suggests that it is possible, not that it will actually happen. A less biased reading of what I wrote would show the overall tone being soft as well because I used a number of weasel words, partly because I was aware that I was using my memory. And, like Mr. Obama, I have known my memory to be less than accurate at times.

My prayer is that God would bless us all who write here, and enable us to resist the temptations of sarcasm and taking easy shots at each other.

I commend Larry Stockstill for his writing "Celebration and Concern". It is the first I've seen in the evangelical Christian press that is calling for a deep breath from all Christians, those that DID vote for Barak Obama and those that did not. We are all children of The Most High and like all families, we disagree from time to time. I have to remember that our first calling is to love and make disciples on this earth.

God Bless you and we'll all be praying for our leadership. Right Y'all? Okay I'll meet you at the throne.

ABC News said today it has landed William Ayers' first TV interview since the former 1960s radical's connections to President-elect Barack Obama became a campaign controversy.

Ayers is set to talk to ABC's Chris Cuomo live on Friday's "Good Morning America."

The interview, tied to a re-issue of the University of Illinois at Chicago professor's 2001 memoir, "Fugitive Days," is currently scheduled for the show's first half-hour from "GMA's" studios in New York's Times Square, a network spokeswoman said.

I believe the election turned out the way it did because God gave mankind a freewill and many people were decieved by 630 plus million dollars and very slick rhetoric.

The most important issue now is that Christians pray for our nation and govening folks in line with scripture - not just out of good will and kind thoughts.

PRAYER FOR LIB DEMS IN POWER

    I TIMOTHY 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

    3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;

:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

    5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

How are we to pray for people in authority who appear to be unbelievers?

As I study and pray on this, one thing becomes ever clear. We must pray for our nation as never before. and stand in the full armor of God.

i THESSALONIANS 5:8 1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

    17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

    19 Quench not the Spirit.

    20 Despise not prophesyings.

And we are to seek discernment and the mind of the Lord, recognizing that we are in the last days and that evil shall rise up against us.

21 Prove ( test, ciscern and examine) all things; hold fast that which is good.

II TIMOTHY 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

    4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

    1. We are to be humble and pliable before the Lord, praying that His attitude be our attitude.

COLOSSIANS 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of
    mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

1CORINTHIANS 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

II CHRONICALS 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    2. We pray for love for them in the same way that God loves them.

This is not love for them the way the are currently behaving. God loved us when we were yet sinners, but He didn’t love the way we were, He loved our “essence”. We must ask the Lord to open our eyes that we will see them as He does.

ROMANS 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

    EPHESIANS 3: 17 – 21
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye being rooted and grounded in Love...
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and to know the Love of Christ which passeth knowledge that y might be filled with all the fulness of God.

    ROMANS 5:5
the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us...

    I JOHN 4:15
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in
    God. (God is LOVE)

16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that
dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God (love) in him.

PHILLIPIANS 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in
    knowledge and in all judgment;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without
    offense till the day of Christ;

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory
    and praise of God.

    3. We are to pray for their salvation if the person in authority appears to be an unbeliever.

We must pray against the satan’s spirit of blindness and intercede for them that their eyes will be opened.

    However,
I generally believe that we should pray something once, then repeatedly praise and thank the Lord for his answer to prayer. In this case, it is always His will for a person to come to Him,

II PETER 3:9 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

However, the person may choose not to. at least not in this time frame.

II PETER 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

So, in this prayer we cannot anticipate with pleasure and certainty that the person will come to the Lord, CERTAINLY NOT AT THIS TIME unless we have spent much time seeking the Word of the Lord on this particular person.

My thought at this point of study and prayer on this, is that pray for Obama, Pelosi and Reed’s salvation, then praise and thank the Lord that He will draw them to him. Then at the same time seek the Word of the Lord regarding each of them. If the Lord give us the word that they are not
going to come to him, OR at least not in the immediate time frame, then we must stand against them.

And at the same time continue to praise the Lord that He is drawing them to him! Their salvation in Christ is more important than their actions today.

JOHN 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

    4. We are to rebuke satan IN JESUS NAME and stand in his way commanding satan and his minions to cease and desist from using that person in authority for evil. The person in authority who does not appear to be walking in Christ, is not the real problem. It is satan!

EPHESIANS 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
    wickedness in high places.

EPHESIANS 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

JAMES 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
    5. We must pray in His Will.

The above prayers are certainly scriptural and therefore in His will. Beyond this type of prayer, we must pray for guidance as to how to pray and pray in the Holy Spirit.

ROMANS 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit,....

JEREMIAH 7:23 ...., Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: ....

EXODUS 8:10 Be it according to thy word ...

JAMES 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

EPHESIANS 6: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, ...

JOHN 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

JAMES 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

    6. Recognize ( without being judgmental) that if the person is an unbeliever, the promises of the Word to born again Christians that are living in Jesus do not automatically apply.

I believe this means that simply to pray for that person’s protection based on our own good will is pointless. ... nothing but religious touchy feely stuff. And I don’t feel that it is scriptural to pray for “divine health” for them. Divine health is a blessing under the New Covenant.

For example, Psalm 91 does not apply to anyone who is not “dwelling in the secret place” of God. Promises of protection are not simply like some charm bracelet. There are Biblical rules and conditions. In the Old Testament people could only expect these promises to apply if they obeyed all of the Law. Under the New Covenant, we must be born again and centered (abiding) in Christ. I think even a born again Christian must walk in love and faith and fill himself with the Word, believe the promises and claim them in order for the promises to consistently apply.

So before we can pray for that person’s protection, we must pray for the Lord’s will in that situation. It may be that it is His will to pray for protection of an unbeliever in a specific situation, placing ourselves between that person and satan.

PSALM 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide
under the shadow of the Almighty.

PSALM 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

    7. Thank and praise the Lord that He has promised to restore righteous leaders to our land.

ISAIAH 1:25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take
    away all thy tin:

26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning:
afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

EXODUS 18:21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear
God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of
thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

PROVERBS 29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the
    righteous shall see their fall.

    8. Recognize that the Blessing is given freely to all those who are born again into the New
Covenant... not to those who have ot accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord!

I don’t think it is appropriate, productive or scriptural to pray these blessings
    over unbelievers.

EPHESIANS 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty...

JEREMIAH 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

    II SAMUAL 22:2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.

    9. Recognize that God can direct Obama and Pelosi and Reed even if they don’t want Him to do so. This is not the same as praying for them to “have wisdom”. In effect, we can pray that God will direct them and control them.

PROVERBS 21:1 Pro 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

PROVERBS 5:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

    10. Ponder the meaning of Romans 13...

Does the following verse really refer to our secular government, or the “rulers” of the church? note that in later verses this passage specifically names “ministers of God”. There are a number of problems with this.

In the last election I was at peace that it was God’s will for McCain and Palin to be elected. I was still at peace after the election about the way that I had been praying, praising and thanking Him for this. After they lost I prayed and searched the Word and consulted Pastor Joan for the an explanation. I feel that the answer is that this was God’s will, but God gave people freedom of choice and too many of the voters were deceived.

Then you have the contradiction that if the secular government decrees something that is against the Word of God, it is certainly not pleasing to God for us to obey that command.. Consider the many passages in the Old Testament where a sinful king led the people to sin against the Lord.

Finally, you have to question whether God ordains government officials who are pushing ungodly agendas.

In short, there is something going on here that is much more complex than simply a blanket instruction to fall into line

ROMANS 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

We have to stand in the gap of those who either do not believe or made unwise decisions in regards to election day. We do need to pray for our leader because the Lord appointed him to be our leader. Remember--God is Sovereign. Sometimes, I think our nation is in judgement because of our moral (biblical) failings and wonder if the Lord is "giving us over to ourselves" like He did with the Israelites. I cannot imagine our nation facing blessing when her people are continually pulling away from the Lord. So, I go on with the next point...that the hearts of kings are like rivers in God's hands and He directs which way they go(This is a passage from the Bible-I just don't remember where the passage is). We DO need to repent and spread the gospel! We need to stand in the gap for our nation like Job did for his children (lest they sin against God). We ALL sin but some of us in our nation sin blatantly against our Lord. We know that in the end times, what is good will be called evil and what is evil will be called good. We are facing that now...we can ask the Lord though to postpone the inevitable so that our nation has a renewed chance to get back on track. I know that there is a growth of Christian values in our youth...I hear of it all the time...I am praying that they will not be fooled by Satan (like so many of our day) and that the Lord would use them to do a mighty work in our nation. We need to stay the course for God and for them! Blessings all!

Daly, the answer to your question"a mutt like me"? Barack Hussein Obama has a chip on his shoulder, even thou he does not show it. He is areal good actor with plenty of "charismas" have you noticed how he stutters when no written papers are in front of him. He is avery insecure person even though, it's hidden really nicely. No wonder he is such a big liar and liars don't go to heaven! Is time to all those that vote for him start praying daily, so his way of thinking be turned around. What is coming is not pretty. People did not listen or got information who is this man. Read the African Press International and you will find things you will never hear or see in the socialist/leftist media who is in vanwagon of Obama.

I reread Alexander Solzhenitsyn's once controversial comments about the media (which he calls "the press") in his infamous 1978 Harvard address where he says he speaks as a friend and then criticizes various failings in the free West.

His comments about how the media use and abuse their power now is no longer controversial-- they understate the grotesqueness of the 2008 United States medi who (as we all know) ran amok to help elect a man
    WE REALLY DO NOT KNOW.

PS His 1978 address to Harvard is easily available online. Wonder what other comments by Mr. Solzhenitsyn will prove to be so incredibly on target???

You don't know Obama. Who are you DNA, Rumplestiltskin? Didja fall asleep for over 20 months? We know him. He is a very well-educated liberal. He is a Christian that confesses Jesus of Nazareth as his Lord and Savior. His well-spoken and somewhat accomplished (president of the Harvard Law Review and professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago. BTW, has Sarah Palin EVEN READ the Constitution?) That's who he is. Sorry you sleep through the whole introduction. Anyway, you don't need to know him. Paul Volcker and Warren Buffet do. And they voted for him, as I am sure T. D. Jakes and Charles Blake did. Rest easy. You are in good hands.

    Sunday, November 9, 2008; B06

The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts.

My assistant, Jean Hwang, and I have been examining Post coverage since Nov. 11 of last year on issues, voters, fundraising, the candidates' backgrounds and horse-race stories on tactics, strategy and consultants. We also have looked at photos and Page 1 stories since Obama captured the nomination June 4.

The count was lopsided, with 1,295 horse-race stories and 594 issues stories. The Post was deficient in stories that reported more than the two candidates trading jabs; readers needed articles, going back to the primaries, comparing their positions with outside experts' views. There were no broad stories on energy or science policy, and there were few on religion issues.

The Post's biographical pieces, especially the first ones -- McCain by Michael Leahy and Obama by David Maraniss -- were compelling. Maraniss demystified Obama's growing-up years; the piece on his mother and grandparents was a great read. Leahy's first piece on McCain's father and grandfather, both admirals, told me where McCain got his maverick ways as a kid -- right from the two old men.

But Obama deserved tougher scrutiny than he got, especially of his undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who was convicted this year of influence-peddling in Chicago. The Post did nothing on Obama's acknowledged drug use as a teenager.

to gale52 you talk about so call christians what are you.Jesus loved everyone Jesus said I came to save the sick. Why don't you Gale52 start praying for the gays and those that are having abortions. You and all those that are so self righteous but have a hateful heart will be the ones Jesus say depart from me because I don't know you. You are the so call christian and you will be the very one the anti christ will fool because you are self righteous. I am so glad President Barak Obama won he can show you so call christians how to really be a child of the kingdom. The bible say people will know you by your love, and what I see on this strange report everytime I get on it is a bunch of people who say they are christians but their hearts are far from God. Even Sarah Palin who was suppose to be the Esther talks out of both side of her face. God is not going to promote a person like Sarah who lies and tries to assassinate someones character like she tried to do to Barack, God shut that right down. She need to get out of the media and go get on her knees to God and ask for forgiveness because if I didn't here her say she was a christian I wouldnt even know it, thats how fowl she is, so she really need to examine herself and start reading more and studing the constitution and then maybe God will allow her to do something.

    November 6, 2008
I feel certain that many in my stream of the Church want a statement from me concerning Tuesday's presidential election. I will be frank in my remarks but I do not, however, intend to vent anger or attack anyone. I have read several statements from friends and colleagues I respect very much.

Their thoughts are well stated and, for the most part, insightful. None of them, however, seem to want to say some things that I believe need to be said. I do not claim infallibility or to have the final word, but my convictions run deep and I believe I bear a God-given responsibility to share them.

    Was This God's Will?
Was what happened Tuesday God's will? I am quite confident it was not. America was offered a very clear choice between moving further toward protecting the unborn or further away; between a Supreme Court that would move toward honoring God, life and morality or away from it. The stakes couldn't have been higher nor the cost greater. As a nation we put on blinders concerning Barak Obama's background, associations, beliefs and practices, and set these causes back years, possibly decades.
And in doing so we took another step away from God and His plans for America, and another step toward judgment.

    Judgment Will Increase
This is not a fire and brimstone warning from an angry, legalistic preacher. In fact, I feel more sadness and grief than anything else.
Perhaps I feel what Jesus felt as He wept for Jerusalem while announcing its judgment. I am not hoping for judgment; I am saying it is inevitable. I don't know where the unbiblical belief comes from that says a nation can live any way it pleases, can reject God and His ways-even mock Him-and not receive His judgments. Nor do I know when the belief came that it is always mean-spirited or judgmental to warn of these things. To the contrary, I believe it is our responsibility.

In warning of judgment, I am not suggesting that God is going to intentially and directly hurt people. Much judgment is simply the absence of God's protection and provision, caused by a rejection of His laws and ways. We have been experiencing some forms of judgment in America for years, but God in His incredible patience and mercy has kept us from the level we've deserved. I believe this will change to a degree and judgment will now
    increase:

For those in the Church who aligned themselves with pro-abortion forces, I believe judgment will result.
For leaders in the Body of Christ who refused to take a stand for fear of losing people, money, and tax-exempt status-I believe there will be a degree of judgment.
For those, both within the Church and without, who voted money over morality-a potential raise or better health insurance over the life of a baby-there will be judgment. (The irony is that this decision to base one's vote on the hopes of a better economy won't produce the hoped for result anyway. The scriptures teach that it is righteousness which exalts a nation and that the nation is blessed whose God is the Lord.)
I have heard the argument that God cares as much about social justice issues (such as poverty and racism) as He does abortion, making a vote for Obama OK. I certainly believe God puts a very high priority on caring for the poor and I, too, have wanted to see equality demonstrated through a "minority" president. But to equate having a better income or the desire for a first black president, regardless of his positions on abortion and morality, to the issue of killing 50 million babies is not justice-it is a gross distortion of justice and great deception. I fear that we have been desensitized to this issue of abortion. I believe it kills babies and takes innocent life. I also believe it is blood sacrifice that empowers demons. Let's not forget this in our noble attempts to be kind and conciliatory.
For African Americans I can easily see how it could bring healing to have a first black president, just as it would be for Native Americans to achieve this or for women if a woman were elected president. Again, I have wanted to see justice in this way. I am only saddened that the price for this healing ended up being Barak Obama, a man that will set the cause of life and, most-likely, our God-given destiny as a nation back so drastically. (I also realize there are some who interpret any criticism of Obama as racism. Racism is so NOT what I am about nor what I live, that I will not even dignify any such accusations with a response.)

    What Can We Expect?

What are some of the judgments we can expect on our nation from this election?

    More economic woes
More violence in an already violent nation
Disease and death (satan, who is responsible for these things will have greater inroads to our nation.)
Natural disasters (weather-tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, drought; fires; earthquakes; etc.)
Terrorism (they will fear us much less now)
War, perhaps on our own soil
Judgments relating to the Court. The stacking of the Supreme Court against the sanctity of life and God's influence on America will occur, which will in turn cause the shedding of more innocent blood, more rejection of God's laws and the stealing from us of our godly heritage-all of which will perpetuate a cycle of even more judgment.

    How Did This Happen?
I've been asked if this could have been averted had there been more prayer. I'm not sure. I believe there was a remnant of Christians fervently praying over these elections-I don't think there was anything more they could have done. Others, obviously, should have done more. The complacency and lack of discernment concerning our real condition in America-especially by the Church-is both appalling and horrifying. America is in serious trouble and it seems no one wants to say it. Fewer still are willing to do anything to change it.
Though I understand our reasons, we must be careful in our attempts to placate our feelings and calm our fears through religious phrases like "God is still on the throne" or "God has a plan". He was on His throne 35 years and 50 million babies ago. And He had a plan back then. The problem is, it was us. I understand our reasons for waving high the banner of God's sovereignty at times like these-it gives us hope. I will wave it, as well.
But please be careful with this. Too much emphasis on God's sovereignty and we're worthless; too little and we're hopeless. Maybe we should say, "we lost a critical battle but God will give us strategy to win the war." Then find the strategy.

But still yet, since God is usually willing to work through a remnant, I thought we had enough prayer. Obviously, God decided otherwise. There comes a time when He will not forgive or bless the majority based on the prayers or actions of only a few. America rejected God and asked for a king; I believe we now have our Saul (see 1 Samuel 8:5-7)-a man who does not have God's heart for America but his own. Like Israel in scripture, our nation believes it can turn from God and still be blessed. In His mercy and justice He will show us otherwise.

Like many, believing I had many promises and confirmations that God would "grace" us with a pro-life president in this election, I failed to consider strongly enough that all promises-even scripture-are conditional 99.9% of the time. Though I never prophesied or made guarantees that McCain-Palin would win, failing to factor this principle in strongly enough no doubt caused me to share my optimism with others inappropriately. If this caused any harm or confusion, I apologize.

Has the fact that my prayers weren't answered shaken my faith? No. I'm a little confused and discouraged. I'm also somewhat angry at the nation in general and much of the Church. Mostly I'm grieving over the nation and what this will cost us. I am not, however, angry with God and do not question His justice. And it is not true that we wasted our time, energy and money in our efforts anymore than it is a waste when we share the gospel with people who don't get saved. We must keep in the forefront of our thinking the fact that ultimately we are doing this for Him and that He will reward us for our faithfulness. And who knows, perhaps He will store up all those prayers for the next battle (Revelation 5:8, 8:3-5).

A friend and fellow warrior said it well,

"We did 'give it our all.' I know the Lord was pleased with that. A coach wants to know one thing at the end of a heartbreaking sports loss: 'Did you leave it all on the field?' (your passion, your commitment, your strength, your courage, etc.) I know that we 'left it all on the field.' We didn't hold anything back until the game ended. Tragically, it ended in defeat. We will rise for another day because Jesus is worthy."

Where Do We Go from Here?
Does this election outcome shake my faith that we can see a great awakening and ultimately reformation in America? Absolutely not (and it strengthens my resolve). We will simply get there through greater pain and loss. Even my passion to see the Supreme Court shift is not from a presupposition that there can be no spiritual awakening without it. It is simply due to my deep conviction that their decisions bring so much death, destruction, curses and judgment to America; and because our full destiny as a nation is unquestionably linked to their decisions. So, yes, we will get an awakening and reformation; but the reality is that this reformation of the nation will reform the Supreme Court (and government, in general), not vice-versa. My faith has never been in people or a political party; my faith is in the God who works through them.

I've been asked if my feelings about Sarah Palin have changed. They have not. I believe she is an Esther, a Deborah, with a huge mantle from God for reformation. God has a great destiny for her related to this nation if she chooses to continue down this path.

So, in conclusion, we must re-group as an apostolic, praying church and advance. We must maintain an immovable faith in God, His plans for America and His mercy. And we must move beyond simply asking God for a spiritual awakening and ask Him for strategy to produce reformation, as well. I, for one, am just getting started!

For God and this great nation,
    Dutch Sheets

With the exception of how the Supreme Court may be configured there is nothing in Sheets' "What to Expect" that isn't happening now.

Of course the economy is going to get worse. Just as with the last recession, things will get worse before its get better since we will have to dig ourselves out. Intelligence reports have long indicated that we may be hit on our own soil again. I could go on but the intelligent reader can see throgh this smoke screen.

I don't think leaders in the Christian community should be throwing these things out like this because all it does is bring reproach to the kingdom. Isn't he the same guy who said that John McCain would win and was also down in Florida "annointing" Todd Bentley.

We need to be careful what prophesies we are hitching our wagon to so it doesn't hurt our witness.

GOD USE THIS ELECTION TO EXPOSE TO THE WORLD THE SIN OF RACISM IN THE HEART OF MANY WHO CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIAN LEADERS. THE SAME GROUP THAT ARE AGAINST ABORTION, THEY ARE ALSO MUEDERERS. THE BIBLE SAYS IN 1 JOHN 3:15 "WHOSOEVER HATETH HIS BROTHER IS A MURDERER: AND YE KNOW THAT NO MURDERER HATH ETERNAL LIFE ABIDING IN HIM. NO RACIST WILL BE IN HEAVEN. READ 1 CORINTHIANS 13 YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY
IN MISSION BECAUSE YOU WILL BE A CAST AWAY ACCORDNG TO THE HOLY BIBLE. WHY SHOULD YOU PREACH TO OTHERS AND THOSE THAT ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST WILL SPEND ETERNITY IN HEAVEN AND YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE BECAUSE OF YOUR RACISM. IS IT WORTH IT?
...HE THAT LOVETH NOT HIS BROTHER ABIDETH IN DEATH.1 JOHN 3:14 BECAUSE OF THE RACISM FROM SOME OF THE PREACHERS, THAT THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD SAW IN THIS ELECTION, MANY OF THEM ARE GOING TO CLOSE THEIR DOOR TO THIS CHRISTIANITY, BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT THIS KIND OF CHRISTIANITY. I PRAY GOD WILL VISIT THIS SOCIETY BY HIS SPIRIT.
OFTEN, SOME PREACHER TALKS ABOUT JUDGMENT. WELL, THE BIBLE SAYS JUDGMENT STARTS IN THE HOUSE OF GOD. YES, IN THE CHURCH. GOD WILL AND MUST JUDGE RACISM IN THE CHURCH. YES ACCORDING TO HIS WORD. SOME, PREACH ABOUT WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE. THAT IS OK, BUT READ EXODUS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE WILDERNESS. THE FUTURE OF CHRISTIANITY IN THIS SOCIETY ARE THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO BOW DOWN TO THE DEVIL OF RACISM.

Many so call leaders that call themselves Christians are using anti abortion and anti gay movement to cover their racism.
Get rid of your racism, then unite will prevail in the body of Jesus Christ. And, abortion and gay movement will be defeated by the
love of God manifesting in the body of Jesus Christ. Amen.

It is amazing how so many who claim to be Christian attempt to slience those God has called to warn the wicked of sin. John the Baptist warn Herod out of love not hate. Jesus warned the pharisees out of love, it wasn't hate. Yet to someone standing by it seemed their words were harsh. Those who hate sit idle while their brothers die daily without any warning; to spend etenity in hell. Even if they've heard it before, we must warn the wicked; thats bible beloved. True love warns gays, murders, thieves and the like of their dismissal of God, and the standards He has set for (all) mankind; not Christians alone.
What i've read in the above 2 posts is someone who has a form of godliness but deny the true power of change that the Holy Spirit brings. To true Christians, who know what love is, it is not a choice, for we will stand before God someday and He will ask why we didn't open our mouth and speak to the man or woman who rejected Him,(not live according to His standard.) Love is not silent but is action. It is not a warm fuzzy feeling but concern, which can be seen in how we tell them stop, God loves you. Come to Him.
Our land is facing darkness, and in the Old Testament God said He will allow those who do such to be overtaken in their land. But its not just their land, it belongs to all of us and we don't want to lose it because some say its okay. What does the bible read? Man shall not lay with man as with woman. You can't twist your why out of that one beloved. So we warn out of love for God and country.

Thanks Brother Sheets for your words. You are sincere and a blessing to the body. Although I am greatly disappointed in this election, I will pray for our new President. I will pray that be becomes a christian. It is sad that the black church did not do the same for President Bush. Jakes, Blake, Caldwell and others who backed race over righteousness will regret their support of him. I do believe their churches will lose the blessing they have had.
