Pray About the Elections

This is one of the most important elections in my lifetime. This week I have lots of information from various sources on some of the issues involved.

One of the most important votes is on the definition of marriage between one man and one woman both here in Florida as well as in California and Arizona. Click here to watch an interesting video about proposition 8 in California sent to me by the American Family Association. At the very end of this blog is a word that came from Dutch Sheets about his calling the body of Christ to prayer in the next 2 weeks up until the election. He believes, as I do, that this election can shift if people pray. It is so important that I'm running it below in it's entirely instead of some of the ads and other materials that we normally run. Please read it, send it to friends, and respond.

Here is a sobering interview by Tony Perkins on the effect that legalizing same sex marriage will have on how we raise our children. The video is about 7 minutes and worth watching.

My friend John Stemberger is leading the charge for passage of Amendment 2 here in Florida. This is the link to his website which has a lot of useful information.
http://www.yes2marriage.org/learn-more/brochures-and-flyers/

Also, below is some information from Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel which is asking people to sign a petition saying they will vote for Amendment 2 and forwarding this to five friends. If you know someone who lives in Florida, please help us by emailing it to them.

For weeks, Liberty Counsel has been working to create a network of grassroots Florida citizens who have taken a stand for marriage. I'm thrilled to report that we now can reach by email well over 100,000 Florida citizens who have expressed an interest in voting for the marriage amendment (Amendment 2)!

I believe these 100,000 plus citizens could make history in the next two weeks by rallying hundreds of thousands more to stand for marriage on November 4.But it all starts with you. Please go here to join with thousands of other Florida citizens who are pledging to vote YES on Amendment 2:

http://www.libertyaction.org/r.asp?u=12360&RID=14674276

After you sign the pledge, please take a moment to "Alert 5 to Keep Marriage Alive."

This is absolutely crucial. Anti-marriage groups are doing everything possible to defeat Amendment 2. They are using deception and scare tactics. They are even falsely telling senior citizens that they will "lose benefits" if the marriage amendment passes. That's why I'm asking you to take a stand with thousands of other Florida citizens right now by taking the marriage pledge.

Go here: http://www.libertyaction.org/r.asp?u=12360&RID=14674276

With your help, we can inform and equip hundreds of thousands of Florida citizens before Election Day. Thank you for taking your stand!

Letter from Dutch Sheets

Dear Praying Friend,

In 2000, I wrote the 2nd most important letter of my life—a call to prayer for the elections of that year. I’m now writing what may be my most important letter. I knew the importance of those elections in 2000 was beyond any in my life up to that point and that the spiritual warfare surrounding them would be unlike anything any of us had ever seen. That letter was read by millions of people and I believe millions of them responded by praying. I also believe the prayers turned the tide. You may question whether President Bush was the right choice; obviously, he has made some blunders in his tenure as president. But two of his decisions alone left no doubt he was God’s choice: Roberts and Alito.

These two Supreme Court Justices have proven critical in the process of breaking the hold of humanism, death and anti-God agendas that have ruled the Court for 50 years. I assure you that more devastation—the shedding of innocent blood, immorality, decay of the family and an erosion of our godly heritage—has flowed into our nation through that institution than any other door in America. Many times more. The poison allowed into America through their decisions is beyond any of our abilities to articulate. The reality in America is that you don’t need to control Congress or the White Hose to rule the nation. You only need 5 people – 5 out of 9 on the Supreme Court. And for decades those who disagree with just about everything you and I stand for have been in control! In Bush’s two terms, the process of turning this around began with the appointments of Roberts and Alito. Now, we win some cases 5-4 and lose some 4-5. (We barely outlawed partial birth abortion. The vote of one judge saved thousands of babies from this horror.) We need one more conservative Justice for a consistent majority, then more to build a strong majority.

In Obama’s own words, “the next president will appoint at least one, perhaps two or more Supreme Court Justices.” He’s right. Almost certainly two or more older, liberal Justices are waiting until after the elections to retire, in hopes of Obama winning and appointing more liberals to replace them. And he certainly would. He voted against the confirmation of Roberts and Alito. So did Biden. And Biden led the fight against Justice Thomas several years back, another of the 4 solid conservatives. Make no mistake about it, the two of them do have a litmus test for Supreme Court Justices, and a major part of that test is Roe vs. Wade. McCain and Palin, on the other hand, both have very strong pro-life positions. This alone makes the choice for President simple. To vote for the 2nd and 3rd most liberal senators (Obama and Biden), both of whom are firmly and blatantly pro-abortion, would be unconscionable.Obama has actually said that if he wins, he would like his first action as president to be the signing of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would eliminate every other law against any aspect of abortion (partial birth abortion, parental notification, etc., etc.). And with a democratic majority in the House and Senate, pretty much any legislation he and Biden want to pass will be a slam-dunk. There are many other unrighteous positions they hold but this position alone makes the choice easy. If they win this election, it will set America back decades in the cause of life and the restoration we seek.

Just as many of you do, I too, want to see a first black President, but not Senator Obama. To allow that noble and godly desire, the economy or one’s position on the war to trump this issue of life and death for the innocent unborn is simply wrong. The scriptures teach that if we choose first to exalt righteousness and turn from evil, God promises to heal our land (see Proverbs 14:34; 2 Chronicles 7:14). It is righteousness that exalts a nation, not wealth, prosperity or armies. If we will finish the process of removing the curses of death and anti-God laws off of America by electing a president that will continue to shift the Court, God will grace us with breakthrough in other areas such as the economy, the war against terrorism, etc. My faith is not in a person, and certainly not a political party, for the healing of America, but I know God’s word and His ways well enough to know that our decisions do move Him to action or inaction. Now to the heart of my reason for writing this letter (I realize I am “preaching to the choir”—most of you who know or listen to me are conservative enough to vote for McCain and Palin.)I have not written any appeals for prayer concerning this election because:

1) others have, and
2) I believe our movement has matured to the point that the prayer base of the Church is already praying.

But I now feel the need to raise my voice. I am appealing to you to pray for these elections the next two weeks like you’ve never prayed for any in the past. Faithfully. Passionately. Boldly. Ask God for His mercy and grace. We deserve His judgment for removing His influence and authority from our government, schools, homes and businesses; for the killing of 50 million babies; for leading the world in the consumption and exporting of pornography; for passing laws to reject His; etc. But mercy triumphs over judgment and in His wrath He remembers mercy. In 2000 we actually lost the popular vote and won the election—talk about grace! Please pray for this grace to be released again.

But I am also asking you for something more than normal prayer. For those of you who understand spiritual warfare, I am asking you to also include this aspect of prayer. There is no doubt that we have entered a Daniel 10 moment in time: “Then he said to me, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, I have come in response to your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia’” (Daniel 10: 12-13 NAS). The spiritual warfare in this election is incredibly fierce, and just as it was in Daniel’s day, is all about the restoration of a nation. And also like Daniel, we must keep praying until we win the battle in the heavens. In August of this year I predicted that September would mark a shift in momentum for these elections. This happened with the appointment of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential nominee (who is a true Esther in our generation), but when the economy began its meltdown and the media ramped up their unprecedented attacks on Palin, that momentum wasn’t sustained. But we can see it turn again if we approach this battle as the spiritual warfare it truly is and bind the evil forces involved (see Matthew 16:18-19). The reality is that this election can be the breakthrough we need to fully shift the Court (and ultimately our nation) or it will be an immeasurable setback that could take many years to reverse—if ever. Please understand what I am saying: if we engage in this battle and do what I am asking—in mass—we will win; if we do not, we will lose. I, for one, don’t intend to allow the latter. I am in Washington, D.C. now (October 20-22) with Lou Engle and a team of prayer leaders from around the nation to war for this election. Join us! Lose some sleep, miss some meals— pray! Pray like never before for these elections. And as you do, involve yourself not only in petitioning prayer but also in spiritual warfare. Use your God-given authority over the plans and strategies of Satan’s kingdom. Bind all witchcraft that is working to control the outcome, including occult powers that are suppressing truth. Release Christ’s Kingdom rule in every way the Holy Spirit leads you.

Don’t be deceived and don’t lose hope (if you have to, turn off the TV.) It is not too late to turn these elections. God is plenty powerful enough to do so. The real question is will we rise to the level of prayer and spiritual warfare necessary to release that power. And remember, we don’t need a majority of Christians who are willing and able to do this—only a praying remnant. We can do it!Here are some practical suggestions to consider:

1) Fast (a meal a day; a day a week; a Daniel fast; 3 days; 10 days; TV; etc.) and spend the time praying.
2) Agree in prayer with someone everyday for God’s will to be done.
3) Form/participate in prayer groups regularly. Churches could pray everyday.
4) Take time in every gathering to pray. (Take 15 minutes in every service to pray for the elections. Turn an entire service to harp and bowl style intercession—worship and prayer combined.)
5) Join 2 or more on a conference call and pray for 15, 20, or 30 minutes.
6) Pray on the way to work (and on the way home).
7) Pray before you go to sleep.
8) Pray before church services.
9) Ask God to give you His strategy—He will!

In His grip,

Dutch Sheets

This is Steve again. This week is a potpourri of things emailed to me. For those who stayed with me this long, here is something from "the other side" showing the radical left is nervous about losing the vote on traditional marriage in California. It was forwarded to me by a friend and I thought it was both encouraging and an interesting insight in how they view people with traditional values.

Subject: Queer community faces 'political emergency' on Prop 8

Letters to the Editor
(Published Thursday, 16-Oct-2008 in issue 1086)

“Today we face a political emergency in the Queer community. The defeat of Proposition 8 by all legal means available is our immediate priority. NOTHING – not even the Presidential election – is more important.”

Dear Editor:

Rex Wockner’s article “Polls flip on California marriage, Gays losing now” (October 9) doesn’t mention the scariest aspect of the new polls showing anti-marriage Proposition 8 ahead: the gain of support occurred almost entirely among young voters (ages 18 to 34). Before this poll, marriage equality advocates had always assumed that the youth were on our side; that even if today’s cohort of voters was against same-sex marriage, the bigots would slowly die off and eventually there would be a clear majority on our side as young people, raised in an atmosphere of live-and-let-live acceptance of Queer people, entered voting age and replaced them.

Well, as on so many issues the Left sat on its hands and hoped, and the Right put their noses to the grindstone and organized. An October 10 dispatch on the Christian Newswire by Trish Teves [http://www.protectmarriage.com/article/traditional-marriage-initiative-makes-gains-with-young-voters] boasts that the Yes on 8 forces have set up a special Web site to appeal to youth directly, iProtectMarriage.com, which “directs users to MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and BlueChowder, encouraging young people to register to vote, get informed about Prop. 8, and tell their friends to vote Yes on 8.” As a result, according to the SurveyUSA poll, voters 18 to 34 are now MORE likely than older voters to support Proposition 8 – 53 percent in favor to 39 percent opposed.

Today we face a political emergency in the Queer community. The defeat of Proposition 8 by all legal means available is our immediate priority. NOTHING – not even the Presidential election – is more important. Passage of Proposition 8 will kill the chances of same-sex marriage anywhere in the U.S. outside of New England forever – or at least long enough that no one now living will see it. The future of Queer equality will be far better if Proposition 8 is defeated and John McCain is the next President than if it passes and Barack Obama is the next President.

Accordingly, the Queer community nationwide in the U.S. should divert ALL its resources into a massive campaign to raise a war chest capable of matching that of the Proposition 8 supporters and defeating this initiative at the polls while there is still a chance to do so. Proposition 8 is the deal-breaker, the vote that will determine whether or not marriage equality for same-sex couples EVER becomes a reality in the United States. Our opponents understand that and are acting accordingly. Are we?

It is about time that the American church woke up and listened. Well said Dutch! It is all about Godly principles and doing the right thing. It is not about race or the right or left. How does each candidate stand for Godly principles that will restore this nation to being the light on the hill. While we thank God for his mercy, let us not abuse it.

Hopefully we will have some good discussion on here and the anti-God camp will not hijack this blog like the others.

Will anyone pray that Obama changes his position on the abortion issue?

Obama needs to change his position on more than the abortion issue. He needs to lose his homosexual advisors, his transgendered advisors, his pro baby killing advisors. The change that his is advocating is the change that has destroyed other nations.

Another great "sounding of the alarm". Thank you Steve and Dutch! Your voices are strong and clear. We agree in prayer and in Jesus name. We now also know that if McCain wins it will be an outright miracle of God. Maranatha!!!!

    Rev. Strang,
Thank you so much for this information. My spirits were lifted tonight as I read this. I know people are hurting in our country but we have to vote Biblical principles. We have to repent and seek God for our nation. Then God will take care of the pocketbook issues. If we don't choose this day to serve God, the price of gas,401k, houses, even jobs won't matter.

Regardless of whether one agrees with Dutch Sheets' view on the election, it is ludicrous to compare Sarah Palin to Esther of the Bible. Sarah has demonstrated her lack of qualifications and knowledge, something that Republicans increasingly are increasingly concerned about.

It remains unclear exactly what her faith convictions are. And the news out of Alaska leads to questions about her integrity.

On the other hand, the Esther of the Bible was a strong, courageous, intelligent woman who was decisive, and whose actions saved the Jewish people.

Sarah is perhaps the least qualified candidate in history from either party to run on a presidential ticket. To compare her to Esther is disrespectful and ignorant. You can do better than that Dutch -- I know because I have read and liked some of your books.

Once again thinking evangelicals and charismatics are embarrassed by the far right wing agendas of some church leaders.

Pray about the election. I've done that. I've asked God to forgive me for blindly following those corrupt republicans all these years, and have asked him to guide me in better judgement. I believe He has given us a better choice this time. My vote goes to Obama.

Fast and Pray for Nov 4. "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." (Matt 17:21). I have heard very little about FASTING for McCain/Palin ticket. A lot of comparison between Palin and Esther: time for 3 day Esther Fast. Believers, let's FAST and PRAY until Nov 4. Then we move mountains. Amen.

Isaiah 58 verses 4 & 9 read in context basically state that our motives for fasting determine whether or not God recognizes it. If fasting is done for outward appearance only, but our heart and motives are far from God, how can God hear? In verse 3, the people were outwardly fasting, but behind the scenes they were still conducting business and extorting from workers. Verse 4 then states that fasting in that manner will not cause your voice to be heard on high. No matter what our words or actions, God knows our heart and our motives. If fasting is done from the heart and is focused on seeking God's will, God WILL hear! God bless!

Verse 4 of Isaiah 58 says that the people were fasting for strife and debate. Verse 9 says not to point fingers and speak vanity i.e. smear people. There has been way too much of that going on.

Fasting to win an election? Why have a democratic process if you are going to invoke God's help? Why not just have a Theocracy and be done with the ballot?

Few noticed when in June presidential candidate Sen. John McCain talked with McClatchy Newspapers about his faith. Every candidate gets these questions, and McCain has never previously effused on Christianity. At the time, McCain said he was an Episcopalian, though he and his family have for years attended North Phoenix Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist congregation. So you can forgive reporters if they were a little surprised to hear McCain finally describe himself as a Baptist during a recent campaign stop in South Carolina.

McCain said he enjoys North Phoenix Baptist because he considers "the message and fundamental nature more fulfilling than I did in the Episcopal church." There's just one catch: McCain has so far refused the eponymous Baptist symbol. His wife and two his children have been baptized, but McCain has not. "I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs," McCain explained. Nor did his pastor regard baptism by immersion to be a requirement for church membership.

I was agreeing with my wife about this election. Polls say one thing. People get a phone call and say one thing. But when they get in that voting booth--or go to early vote and punch in the ballot choices--you really don't know how many will go one way or another. There is that very split second of decision--and in this race--where you do have a maverick Republican who votes against his party line often, practices what he preaches about pork spending, etc. And you do have the first African American with a serious chance to become the first black US President -- tied in with the economic crisis and the war on terror--the inexperienced Palin factor--the shocker of Hillary folding to a junior senator... A nuclear-arming Iran, a bolder Russia, an economic-space bound China. More than 81,000 home foreclosures in September in the US. US and foreign banks buying up bad debt and selling off America. Voters heads must be swimming.
So when that poll visit happens for the actual act of voting--current poll results are right out the window. We really can't know how this one will go. A pen aimed at one box may check right in the other... in the blink of an eye.
People who say they'll vote for Obama will suddenly find their selection falling to McCain's box. And of course, those who claim McCain may do the same for Obama-if just to "go with history" and elect the first US black president. Personally I think Obama is eight years too early for a presidential run. I think Joe Biden is far more ready to step in as president than Sarah Palin is realistically--regardless of whether you agree with Biden's politics. He'd make a better Chief Executive today than Gov. Palin would... today.
But I can't seem to justify voting against McCain because of Palin. Because I have faith. I don't trust Sarah. I trust Jesus.
I think a gay person should be able to visit their significant other in the hospital, but I don't believe there is such a thing as gay "marriage." I understand the repercussions of that re-definition well. As Christians, we should be compassionate towards all people. I have worked next to gay and lesbian people in the workplace and only show them love and compassion. That doesn't mean I condone their lifestyle at all. But if they are to see Jesus at all, it will be through His love, not our condemnation.
That doesn't mean we have to agree to redefine morality. nor does it make me a bigot.
So Dutch and Steve are right -- the power of prayer and its strategic relentless timing can turn this one for God's will, for the Kingdom. Whatever one's leaning be, politically or spiritually, pray for Jesus Christ to have His way.

Our earnest prayers "avail MUCH". If the prayers of one man affected an entire nation, so can ours! (James 5:17-18)
"Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for him...He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isaiah 40:10-11)

btw...The only reason people think that Sarah Palin is not qualified is because of the media slant. We haven't really had a chance to get to know her. She's certainly as qualified as Barack Obama! I find it quite interesting that the media rarely compares our presidential candidates. They usually prefer to emphasize Palin's inexperience rather than comparing Obama to McCain. Interesting. Nevertheless, man's definition of "qualified" is not as important as God's standard. What are the qualifications HE requires?!
Thank you, Mr. Sheets & Mr. Strang for making that clear.

Sarah Palin has problems- She does not know what her role would be as a VP. Every job I have applied for I had to know what the job entailed- why can't she remember what a VP's job is? Their are only two functions that the constitution set forths for a VP. Her little Piper (2nd grader) can answer that question probably. I'm I wrong here? Does intellect matter anymore? This is wrong, but us Christians will put the Lord in front of it and go for it.

Wait a minute... suddenly there is something terribly wrong! Strang wants us to vote for the candidate who is more Godly??? But he said he endorsed McCain!

Look, vote for the candidate who did NOT leave his wife and family for his younger girlfriend. Vote for the candidate who is interested in family principles. Vote for the candidate who is interested in talking about the issues, not talking about how rotten the other guy is. Vote for the man who only owns one house (and knows it). Is the USA better now than it was eight years ago? NO! It's FAR worse! Well, much was made of the faith of George W! Remember that? Did it help anything? This country is quickly going to hell and we need to vote for the man who will turn the direction around, not just pick up the ball and continue running in the same direction. That's what the records show, and they are NOT in dispute!

As for this abortion issue... you conservatives must be kidding! NOBODY likes abortion, and EVERYBODY wishes it would never happen. EVERYBODY agrees that it is a horrible thing! But here's something equally horrible... our government legislating morality. These issues are between the individual and God. NOT the individual and God and the government. The republicans always cry that the democrats want big government, yet they have NO problem trying to legislate their personal beliefs! THAT'S BIG GOVERNMENT!

The pilgrims did not come to America for freedom of religion... they came for freedom FROM religion! The church of England was dictating EVERY aspect of morality. Let's not become that.

...by the way, republicans want as many babies to be born as possible so that as soon as they turn 18, they can be marched off to war!

Pretty Godly bunch of people, wouldn't you say?

Elena, Elena. Do you really want us to get out the scales and weigh McCain's versus Obama's (in his TWO autobiographies Obama confesses to some rather serious ones)?

And, can I suggest that it is somewhat unimaginative of you to NOT entertain the notion that McCain long ago repented of the sins he committed against the original Mrs. McCain? He did, you know, admit at the Saddleback Forum that his divorce was the worst mistake of his life.

If, having read the above paragraph, you so desperately want Obama to win that you go on accusing McCain of a dreadful trespass committed decades ago, can I make a suggestion:

Give us a list of your most serious sins (and remember to go back decades) and WE will let you know if WE feel up to giving YOU absolution.

Just vote for Obama, and leave the accusations to the Accuser of the Brethren (you heard of him, right?)

"Well, much was made of the faith of George W! Remember that? Did it help anything?"

Actually, Elena, I think it did. Are you aware that, according to Bob Woodward's book, Bush at War, every cabinet meeting was begun with prayer.

Having George Bush as president during ---

    *** 9/11
    *** two wars
    *** the Katrina debacle
    *** the faltering economy

was somewhat disconcerting to me because I believe President Bush's poor decisions caused SOME of the problems; but on the other hand, it was comforting to me to have his hand on the tiller --- and not Gore's or Kerry's --- because I believe George Bush today bows his knee to the Lordship of Jesus the Christ.

Someday, everyone (Gore, Kerry, Obama ... everyone) will bow their knee. I prefer to be led by those who are humble enough to do so now.

Yes, I heard the same instructions as you guys that "we" are to get in the conservatives face and stay there. Cause confusion and say whatever we have to in order to confuse their message. Anything to discredit the conservative agenda.

Guess what guys, true Christians can see through all the garbage and have something that God gives called discernment. So take your bag of dirty tricks and head left and go play in your own sandbox. Lets keep this on topic about praying for God's will to be done in America.

"Having George Bush as president during ---

    *** 9/11
    *** two wars
    *** the Katrina debacle
    *** the faltering economy

    was somewhat disconcerting"

Bush has been blamed for the economy because the average American will not take responsibility for their own actions and like to lay the blame on someone else. The American consumer is to blame for our economy more than anyone else. Mortgages that they can't afford, houses that are too big, too many cars, plasma screen TVs, the latest Ipods, the closets of clothes, the vacations that they can't afford. And the advice that they have taken from the greedy financial "gurus" of Wall Street.

How many people have taken out home equity loans to pay off credit card debt or taken out home equity loans to pay off the mortgage that they couldn't afford in the first place. Are they tithing? Are they giving above the tithe? Are they feeding the poor and clothing the naked? Or are they looking after number 1?

It is easy to blame the President, but look at your own life first. Suggestions that Bush could have done to fix the economy - outlaw stupidity in personal financial matters.

And your post said it all - this is not about sides. Sounds like you are one of those that Bill in DC was talking about. Just here to stir up trouble. This is not about taking sides this is all about people taking responsibility for their actions. We are rapidly becoming a nation of people that want to be "looked" after and kept. The government is at fault, the government should do this, the government should do that. If people took responsibility for their own personal finances we wouldn't be in the mess that we are today.

God gave everyone a brain so lets just use what God gave us. And no I am not bragging about the great financial situation that I am in. I am bragging though about my God who gives wisdom and understanding to those who ask for it. I am bragging about a God who looks after his children even though we do stupid things and think that we can do it better than His instruction manual says. When we follow His plans we prosper - when we don't - guess what - we tend to lose.

I am a bible believing christian and very concerned with the upcoming election for a number of reasons. The last election our spiritual leaders told us that President Bush was God's will and yet i believe that Bush has done more harm than good. He has stood for stem cell and his first choices were not the judges he ended up appointing. He said that he was pro-life but did nothing about abortion and when he had both houses the Republicans did nothing about gay marriage in my opinion it was because they did not want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. So now the other side is up in arms will McCainan dpalin really do anything about these issues or are they just telling us what they think we want to hear. For me its more about what one does and not what they say.And if they don't talk the talk where is the voice of the church to hold them accountable?? i hope i will hear the church loud and clear and not just at election time. What are churches doing in their communities about bringing anti-abortion and praying for homosexuals rather than condemining them. Please let me know because for as long as we do not have an answer then the people who are in these situations will go the other way some because they have not heard that Jesus saves even the aborter and the homosexual.

    To anonymous at 3:48:

    1) He pre-emptively attacked another nation. Most of those allied with us in the Gulf War knew that, this time, we were wrong. They were right. Pre-emptively striking another nation is not a sign of greatness.

    2) Though I think very highly of President Bush, I am not deterred from seeing the truth about the Katrina mess. The federal government --- though not the sole bearer of responsibility --- responded in a slow and inept manner to the Katrina catastrophe. As a Republican and a prayerful supporter of Bush, I do not like admitting these things but they are true.

    3) President Bush did not build the fence on our southern border. He should be very, very ashamed of this neglect.

    4) He gave CIA director George Tenet the Medal of Honor. That is disgraceful. You see, I am not one that believes Bush and Cheney lied about the weapons of mass destruction. I do believe, however, that the CIA did a rotten job of intelligence leading up to the war. As the head of the CIA, Tenet NO WAY deserved the Medal of Honor. The intelligence 'buck' stopped at his desk.

    5) Bush nominated a woefully under-qualified Harriet Miers for Supreme Court justice. Thankfully, the Republican right wing rose up and forced him to withdraw that silly nomination.

    6) He oversaw budgets that approximated the spending habits of a drunken sailor. Like Reagan, Bush was right to cut taxes, but wrong not to fight a spending explosion.

    THAT'S WHAT HE DID WRONG.

Someone said they were sure that Bush bowed his knees to Jesus Christ.

Good one! I see some of you folks are still on the Kool Aid.

In November 2003, Bush told the media, "I believe that all the world, whether they be muslim, christian or any other religion prays to the same God."

[Jesus, Buddha, Allah, a holy cow in India, for Bush its all one in the same]

In 2004 Bush told NBC, "I believe that Christians, Muslims and all religions worship the same God. We have different roads of getting to the Almighty."

[Seems our Christian president doesn't think much of "I am the way the truth and the life."]

In 2002 he went on official visit to a Shinto temple, paying homage to the priest's rituals and bowing for worship and prayer in a pagan temple. A temple that Christians in that part of the world will have nothing to do with.

Bush has the "honor" of being the FIRST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES TO HOST RAMADAN, and evoke Muhammed as a prophet, at the white house.

If I were you, I wouldn't be too quick to claim to know who the president bows to.

Maybe Dutch Sheets and Strang need to share what pearls of wisdom they have for the church about Bush's slide into apostasy.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The next U.S. president will have a nearly unprecedented opportunity to reshape the United States Supreme Court, analysts say.
With the possible retirements of three high court justices in the next four years, Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama, especially, would be in a position to name liberals to the bench because he would be supported by a Democratic Party-controlled U.S. Congress, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) reported Monday.

Walter Dellinger, a prolific Supreme Court practitioner and former acting U.S. Solicitor General, told the Post it was likely that Justices John Paul Stevens, 88, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 75, and David Souter, 69, would step down in the next four years if Obama were elected.

"President Obama is going to be able, I think, to name whomever he wishes to the court and have that person confirmed," he said.

To start with I'm not American but ám African and I've keenly been following what's been happening in terms of elections in this "great nation". Am really surprised at the way the african-american believers(blacks) are saying taht they are voting for Obama(may be 'cause he's black).

I live in Africa, southern part in particular. I want to appeal to my Black American believers to vote wisely not because one is black like them and they want to identify themselves with him so as to say that they can also rule this great nation. Yes Obama may come in as President but what I see is the downfall of this great nation at a faster rate than anticipated. why I say this is when you look in the bible how God would punish His people, He would just allow an evil king to come into power who would commit sins which will attract the wrath of God. And God is the same He doesnt change. When you look at the two presidential candidates both are not alright but I find McCain a lesser evil than Obama looking at what they stand for. How do you allow somebody who walks, lives, dines and sleeps with people of depraved(abased) minds-homos etc, to rule the nation and you say you are a child of God. People of America, Choice is given to you on 4th November between life and death, and I encourage you to choose life over death. Why? Because by this time next year, you believers (blacks especially) will be praying prayers which you can avoid now if you choose wisely. You might dismiss this as just one of those things, but you wait and watch/see what happens after this election. I don't mean to threaten you but just to advise you as a believer in the lord who's interested in the affairs of USA since my God still rules in the affairs of men.

    Wish you best as vote.

Okay, look, I'm not a huge fan of President Bush. I don't think he's the best president ever, and he's actually been kind of disappointing, to be honest. But this stuff that people blame him for? Come ON, people, go back to school and retake civics!

The war in Iraq? Not illegal. He didn't have to have the UN's approval to go to war (which he did have, anyway, most of them just didn't want to be involved. Look up "food for oil scandal" to understand why.), but he DID have to have Congress' approval...which they gave. And we don't know if he "lied" or "purposely misled" or was misled himself. Or MAYBE, he was telling the truth. We don't know, do we? But let's suppose we HADN'T gone in, and Hussein really WAS developing nuclear weapons that could reach the U.S., and he bombed us. Oh, but then we'd have the whole world behind us like we did after 9/11, right? And that's what matters? WHY does it seem that it takes a large amount of death in order to get the world behind us?

The election was not stolen. The courts upheld the Constitution, which is what they're supposed to do.

The Patriot Act is no worse than other things that have been passed while we were at war. As a matter of fact, it's almost identical to executive orders from during the Civil War, and WWII. Were Lincoln and Roosevelt also horrible presidents? Don't think so.

He created a government of torture? Yeah, and how many of the people who answered this have ever been to Guantanamo, hm? How many people HERE have ever been tortured, or treated like a terrorist? Anyone? And if the government wants to tap everyone's line to the point where if they hear certain key words (bomb, White House, assassination, et cetera) they can act on them, so be it. Anything to keep us safe.

The value of the dollar and the economy have nothing to do with President Bush. Know who's mostly responsible for the economy? WE are! WE caused the Great Depression, not the president, and WE are working on causing a second one. Great job, guys! This is what happens when too many people live outside their means, just like they did in the 20s.

Hey, Cricket, better listen to McCain:

In an interview Thursday with The Washington Times, McCain spoke of Bush in tones bordering on contempt, ticking off a litany of what he said were the president’s failures.

“Spending, the conduct of the war in Iraq for years, growth in the size of government — larger than any time since the Great Society, laying a $10 trillion debt on future generations of America — owing $500 billion to China, obviously, failure to both enforce and modernize the [financial] regulatory agencies that were designed for the 1930s and certainly not for the 21st century, failure to address the issue of climate change seriously,” McCain told the newspaper.

“We just let things get completely out of hand,” he said of the past eight years of Republican rule.

Your rhetoric is completely over the top. I am a Christian, raised an evangelical, and I am tired of listening to people such as you and Jim Dobson who promote a knee jerk reaction to Obama by fearmonering. In my opinion, Christians are not marginilzed enough. We all stand up for issues such as abortion and gay rights--neither of which we have to choose ourselves. The problems go much deeper. How about speaking out against Christians who have bought into the cultural definition of succes and live in enormous homes. I have been in Sunday school class with some of these people right here in Tulsa Oklahoma. They get up and praise the Lord for helping them find houses with swimming pools. I'd like to see a great deal more attention paid to the economic issues--poverty and violence. Where are your voices? You better do some serious self-examination on these issues. Christians have turned into materialists just as much as everybody else. Be careful about supporting the GOP. They have done a good job of using Christians to promote their agenda of deregulation and perks for the wealthy. Why aren't you speaking out about these issues? Why aren't you concerned about people with no health care and the enormous loss of jobs in this country? How could you vote for George Bush, who claimed to be a Christian and then allowed Karl Rove to use his scorced earth election tactics against John McCain and John Kerry? How could you support such blatant liars over your obsession with abortion? I suggest you get out of your ivory towers and adopt as many pregnant women as you can. Feed them. Find them jobs. Help them rear their children. Make sure that they are black and come from the inner city. When you publically care about social justice for minorities and stop supporting racist candidates, I will listen to you. By the way, you are losing younger Christians today. They have a different view of the world; they care about some of the same issues you do, but they are tired of being used by one political party. I suggest you stay neutral so that you can speak out more clearly and convincingly about ALL the issues that God cares about. Read the Old Testament--it's widows and orphans.

    Guys like Steve Strang
    Guys like Dr. Dobson
    are to Christianity
as guys like George Bush are to politics.

They are preditory in the most spiritual sense of the term.

    Example:
George Bush won the support of a large portion of the alleged Christian community simply by
    proclaiming his anti abortion stance.
As a result an unknown, but probable 10's of thousands of
innocent men, woman, children, born and unborn, have suffered a horrible fate at the hands of the US war machine.
By the way - if you think that we don't share responsibility for that, your in spiritual denial....

If you believe in the Living God,
you had better begin to understand
him and not be so foolish as to segragate Gods love into the simple minded pigen hole of the American Evangelical community.

    George Bush is a preditor.
He prayed on the passions of the American people and scored big time.

    Mr. Strand and Mr. Dobson
    are preditors.
Like Mr. Bush they use our faith against us - cater to our spiritual fear and no doubt -
    profit big time.

The one thread all three of these men have in common, as well as men like them, is that they are (as spiritual beings) totally lacking in those singular qualities that
    Christ preached.

Like the Christian Church they have declined to the point where they have no arms, no legs, no eyes, no ears, just one huge mouth.........

If you believe in the spin that Mr.
    Strang and his fellow preditors
    proclaim - ask yourself this!

From a Christian point of view -
How has our nation changed in the last eight years - for the better
    or for the worse.

From a Christian point of view.
From the point of view of Christ.

It is time for the Christian community to stop assuming that we speak for Christ, time to stop listening to the Commercial Christian Spin Artists that have made a mockery of our faith, of our nation,of the Church.

I for one turn my back on those preditors - and turn my eyes and ears to Christ - He is easy to find.

He is the guy nailed to the cross,
asking the Father to forgive the preditors of Rome - both religious, as well as the political preditors.....

    Nothing has changed.....
I fear greatly that just in having shared my opinion - I share the "Sin of Spin".

Luckily for me, I've realized that God avoids political races. These contests are our own messes to deal with. He doesn't take sides on wars either. We do. And by the way, someone want to tell me, within Christian doctrine (not the nationalist Christian dogma that confuses patriotism with faith), why it is not OK to have an abortion, but it is OK to send teens off to kill and be killed? In the Christianity I learned, neither option is acceptable.
I'm tired of my fellow Christians (that's right - I am one, and NO you do not get to tell me that I am not one if you don't agree with me - that's between me and God, not those of you hypocritical self-righteous fools who somehow think you have the inside track - you don't, you're just self-deluded). Obama is as much of a Christian as any of us are, and he is trying to find the right answers in complicated situations, in an American, not a religious, position of leadership. That doesn't mean faith goes out the window (quite the opposite), but that he needs to lead within the context of our Constitution, that outlines the art of governing for ALL of us Americans, not just those who agree with you.
By the way - the whole saving marriage flap could be solved if government got out of the business of regulating it. If the government is going to issue marriage licenses, then it needs to issue them to ALL its citizens equally. Legitimizing discrimination of governmental services through initiatives is a very dangerous path to start down. For instance, the same state constitution in California that guarantees equal rights for gays to obtain marriage licenses also guarantees religious freedom. Do you all really want to be the ones to set the precedent for specific groups to be discriminated against in our own constitutions? That's a move that can come back and bite you in the posterior. I see a lot of anti-Christian sentiment in this country (caused mostly by fundamnetalists - I'm Orthodox - and many evangelicals I've met don't know what that is). Do you want to set the precedent to allow religious discrimination? You're doing it in California right now.
And by the way, I'm a Californian too. Keep your hands OFF our state constitution. We don't appreciate everyone pouring money into our state to bastardize our constitution to suit your dogma.
In ths election I'm praying that we get the best candidate for the job, and that we get better government than we deserve. And may God forgive us all.

Choosing a President on Biblical values! I think that was the topic of this post. As evidenced by the responses there are a ton of Biblical values, some of which have differing priorities.
What about honesty, that seems to be in very very very short supply among evangelicals and Republicans these days?
What about integrity in accepting responsibility of the economy today for the people in charge the last 8 years, namely the Republicans (of which I happen to be one)? Blaming everyone except yourself is something we learned NOT to do in third grade Sunday School.
What about putting God first as in the FIRST commandment? What would God say about trying to twist this election into a good vs. evil scenario when it clearly is not? Which of the spiritual forces in the universe uses fear tactics to blind right thinking and accountability and truth?
I think one writer to this blog put is very very very clearly. Eyes are open this time, and this Satanic fea mongering is being clearly seen and will be responded to after the election in the Christian marketplace.

Let's see..our current President supports..bombing innocent Iraqi women and children...torturing and abusing people at Guantanamo who have not received a trial in 5 years..thinks owning a gun is a God-given right, making it possible that any fool can buy a gun at a gun show..opposes helping the poor by opposing an increase in the minimum wage...what's Christian about any of that? What happened to love your neighbor? ..and somehow, Obama is the evil one?

If it's gloom and doom time then Bush's non thinking has put the world as close to one currency as it will ever get trying to recover from this craziness. I pray that people are smart enough to pray to God for his true understanding and not listen at Pastors who teach all non Christians are going to hell but no matter what Christains do after confessing Christ they will still enter Heaven. Pray that Christians really began to practice W.W.J.D.

Our involvement as citizens is not only a matter of prayer, it is a matter of thinking and reasoning. We don't need to pray any more for this election that for all other matters of concern.

Obama is clearly the better candidate to lead the whole country and restore our standing in this world, though he is wrong on taking a pro-choice position on legalized abortion. How can believers ignore the disgraceful campaign of McCain/Palin. Lying is as wrong as supporting abortion rights.

    Mr. Strang
I am an African-American, Evangelical, Christian male who is also a registered Republican. I walk the walk of a Holy-Ghost filled Christian each and everyday of my life. I believe in putting God first in EVERYTHING that I do and say. My wife and I have stood for what I will call Republican “values” even when some of these politicians did not view it as popular to proclaim that they themselves were Christian.
With that said, I also believe that the prayers of a righteous man availeth much. I say that because it appears that many who call themselves evangelicals appear to be running in high gear preparing for the end of the United States or as you said Mr. Strang, “Life as we know it will end if Obama is elected”. Well, exactly what is life as you know it now, sir? Prayer has been taken out of school. There is a push to remove the words “In God we Trust” from our currency. Traditional marriage of one man and one woman is being allowed to be contested in the courts. There is legal persecution rising against those who speak out against homosexuality from the pulpit. Gay marriages are being “ordained” in some states of America. Homosexual and pornographic programming and TV channels share the airways right along with our Christian and gospel channels (sometimes following each other back to back). So it appears to me that life as you and I know it has long begun to have satan’s influence creep into it.
Again I say, “The prayers of a righteous man availeth much”. Have you and other notable evangelicals prayed and asked GOD to not allow these things to happen? If you have and things did not change it probably means there is not much righteousness in our lives. The enemy has been allowed to insert his agendas into our lives unchecked for quite some time but now all of a sudden, “Life as we know it will end if Obama is elected”. I have to ask Mr. Strang, based upon your statement is there some other reason that you are afraid for life as you know it? Surely if your concerns (and prayers) were GOD’s concerns, then former Governor Mike Huckabee would have received the Republican endorsement for President.
Over these last few months I have watched with fascination the amount of hysterics that have begun to rise both in the secular and Christian circles because of the candidates for the Office of Presidency. Both candidates have platforms that have aspects that I both agree as well as disagree with. Both candidates proclaim they are Christian. Both candidates have also exhibited sinful and flawed characteristics and judgments (as we all have) in both their personal lives and political careers. Therefore, neither candidate can be christened “GOD’s choice” because GOD is no respecter of persons.
So now I am once again returning to the voting booth to vote. I have long voted for those who call themselves a “Christian” even though they did, said or acted on some issues that made me wonder about their sincerity and walk. Based upon this, I must remember that I am voting for a politician and not a priest. Therefore, I will not only vote for the one who has proclaimed before the world to be a Christian and has accepted JESUS CHRIST into his heart but also for the one who has the best plans to correct some of the local and global calamities that have befallen us as of late. I will also pray for GOD’s wisdom, knowledge and understanding to rest, rule and abide in that person’s heart. Sir, I ask that you and other “Christian Leaders” do the same and not let any hidden biases and fears in your heart taint your words and thoughts which are then spewed upon the public. At the end of the day, if you truly believe in GOD you would not be so fearful and realize that GOD is and will always be in control!

FROM --- yes, it's true --- THE NEW YORK TIMES (10-30-07)

Barack Obama does not say much about his years in New York City. The time he spent as an undergraduate at Columbia College and then working in Manhattan in the early 1980s surfaces only fleetingly in his memoir. In the book, he casts himself as a solitary wanderer in the metropolis, the outsider searching for a way to “make myself of some use.”

He tells of underheated sublets, a night spent in an alley, a dead neighbor on the landing. From their fire escape, he and an unnamed roommate watch “white people from the better neighborhoods” bring their dogs to defecate on the block. He takes a job in an unidentified “consulting house to multinational corporations,” where he is “a spy behind enemy lines,” startled to find himself with a secretary, a suit and money in the bank.

He barely mentions Columbia, training ground for the elite, where he transferred in his junior year, majoring in political science and international relations and writing his thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament. He dismisses in one sentence his first community organizing job — work he went on to do in Chicago — though a former supervisor remembers him as “a star performer.”

Senator Obama, an Illinois Democrat now seeking the presidency, suggests in his book that his years in New York were a pivotal period: He ran three miles a day, buckled down to work and “stopped getting high,” which he says he had started doing in high school. Yet he declined repeated requests to talk about his New York years, release his Columbia transcript or identify even a single fellow student, co-worker, roommate or friend from those years.

“He doesn’t remember the names of a lot of people in his life,” said Ben LaBolt, a campaign spokesman.

Mr. Obama has, of course, done plenty of remembering. His 1995 memoir, “Dreams From My Father,” weighs in at more than 450 pages. But he also exercised his writer’s prerogative to decide what to include or leave out. Now, as he presents himself to voters, a look at his years in New York — other people’s accounts and his own — suggests not only what he was like back then but how he chooses to be seen now

Nader is profoundly different from the other candidates because he is not a career politician. Nader’s calling has been special in that rather than merely spending a political career jawboning for votes, he has actually spent a lifetime of selflessly working on hundreds of causes by identifying critical issues, rallying the people around those serious issues to find solutions and actually doing what was necessary to correct the problems.

Ralph’s politically biased critics are expert at using the eager sensationalist press as their alter ego to broadcast their false, exaggerated and twisted remarks to slander him through personal attacks.

They have never put the cause above themselves or reached out to the public for any reason other then for politically prostituting themselves by character assassinating one of the most respected people in the world. Unlike Nader, they have never held a demonstration, never conducted a community rally, never spoken to Congress and never taken on big business because of big businesses’' inhumane or anti-American practices.

What similar contributions have Nader'’s critics made to America? None! They have zero credentials.

Unlike his detractors, Ralph donates nearly all of his income, other than a modest $25,000 per year, to approximately 50 non-profit vibrant organizations that he has founded which are totally dedicated to helping the American public.

The article is a little bit misleading trying to make it look as if McCain-Palin will do the will of God why Obama-Biden might not. I remember a similar article was posted about BUSH too years back. I do believe love connquers all. And what we should be praying about is that God should favor a man after his heart- whosoever he is. I think the BUSH administration has been a time of war, fear, gloom and doom. Nobody wants to continue with it ...fighting nations all over the world. I think we need a time of peace, and it takes wisdom to make peace like Solomon in the bible his time of reign was a time of peace. But more importantly let the will of God be done. Abortion and Gay right bills are just a small part of the the issues we are facing today.

    DETROIT FREE PRESS EDITORIAL (10-26-08)

If either of the two biggest Detroit auto companies fails in the next 12 months, it could threaten some 4.5 million jobs nationally, health benefits for 775,000 people, and cause untold losses in industries such as steel, rubber, aluminum, copper and plastics.

For all its woes, that's how big the auto industry still is in this country, how significant a pillar it remains to our manufacturing base and overall economy. For General Motors Corp. or Ford Motor Co., both still among the 10 biggest companies in the nation according to Fortune Magazine, or Chrysler LLC, which is smaller but still critical, to run out of money to operate would be a disaster from which not just Michigan but the country would take years to recover.

So it would be smart now for the federal government -- which is already more than $1 trillion into bailing out the credit and financial markets -- to turn its attention quickly to the fortunes of GM and Ford, both teetering on the brink of solvency and desperate for money to get them through to what most experts believe will be a brighter, retooled future. There are more jobs directly at stake in the health of the U.S.-based auto industry than in any other sector of the economy that has been on the receiving end of federal help or investment.

I believe every election is important. What concerns me is that now there is an urgency to pray. I respect the view of Dutch Sheets and agree we as christian should always be praying for our elected officials, but what concerns me is that it was (us) christians who stopped praying many years ago. Where were our prayers when abortion was legalized and where were the fasting and praying when prayer was taken out of school! We are pointing alot of fingers at these candidates but the finger pointing must start at home with us (christians). We need to repent. The failures started long ago not eight years ago. I do not believe in abortion or same sex marriage, but I do not hear any candiates giving answers for the many children in foster care where people chose to give life. I do not see a line of people wanting to adopt!!! If we are going to have a platform on saving the lives of children it doesn't end with stopping abortion. If we believe same sex marriage is wrong then we need to start cleaning house in the church with the issues of homosexuals life style in the church. "Makes you wonder why their is some much division in the church". Because we do not truly believe the "Word Of God", but we want the world to believe we believe.
The church has struggled with these issues and as a church body we sweep them under the rug and allow men and women to minister. The church is in need of healing alot of christians no longer believe his word that is why their is division. What concerns me is that "we do not see our wrong"! I believe our hearts need to change and seeing the need to change will take a season. It may take a 4 year election to see how far we have left our first love and now that someone may change a life style we did not value we want God the "Jennie" to save us. Something is wrong with this picture. This sounds more like a 911 prayer not a prayer of seeing our wrong and crying out for forgiveness. Its going to take a season of time for the church to wake up to their moral and sinful failures and cry out for the conditions we as the saints have allowed our country to come too. I believe one day our hearts as a nation will turn back to its first love.

My concerns with the emails stating who we should vote for, or even the many scriptures people are pulling out of context is placing alot of fear on people to vote for someone or be "judged" is a fear tactic. I believe it is important to truly pray and seek God for yourself on who you should vote for.
I believe the world would begin to believe in the church if we would start living like christ Jesus did "love God with all your heart, soul and mind" and "love your neighbor as yourself. We have all missed the mark in how we have allowed pride to dictate our decisons or how we have managed our money or not caring for the widow and orphan. Whoever is selected in office, I believe God allowed it and it will be our opportunity to pray for this man for wisdom in guiding our country.

We need to stop generating fear among people based on who will be elected. I thought God was in charge! "just a thought"

Today I was dismayed to read about the letter that Focus on the Family sent out -- a letter which outlined what America would be in 4 years,if Obama was president. The letter is a load of lies -- blatant, fear-mongering exaggerations...it's so sad to see James Dobson et. al circulate such misguided, unChristian fear-motivated false claims, under the guise of "thus saith the Lord". That's not just audacity; it's hypocritical auacity. Perhaps Dobson would do better to take Dutch Sheets' advce and funnel his Christian energy into prayer rather than political propaganda. God's will will be done, whether Obama or Mcain take office. If we as Christians fundamentally believe that God is at work fulfilling His sovereign plan, even through leaders and events that may seem contrary to the "Christian agenda", then why do spend our "Christian" energy maligning and attacking the character and life of another human being that God may have raised for such a time as this (Christian or not) -- rather than spending our time praying that His will be done no matter what takes place?

Dobson perpetuates hateful and fearful stereotypes and scenarios about Obama that are unChristian because they are untrue and unfounded. His doing this reveals something that we should be scared of more than the outlandish fear that "boy scouts will be forced to sleep in tents with homosexual scout leaders under Obama's America" (a "truth" proposed in his letter) -- and that more pervasive and realistic evil of our time is this: blind prejudice rooted in fear rather than faith that God is Sovereignity in this eleection, a destructive propensity for false judgment that we are all capable of making as humans, as Christians especially, because we run the risk of assuming that God is on our side --the only way to stay on His side and discern His will is through prayer -- so let's do our Christian part: pray fervrently and conduct ourselves in a Christ-honouring way: speaking truth with love and with the humility that we do not have the monopoly on righteousness and truth -- those are always God's and His alone.

I am praying! But I'm praying Obama comes and makes this a fairer nation where the rich or more so, kids of the rich, don't always get the unfair advantage of going to College, not having to work, and so getting better grades, and then going on with life with no massive school loan debt, always ahead of everyone else--all because of birth. I want to see Obama level out the playing filed so everyone gets a fair shake--not because of what family you were born into!

And yes, I'm for the government taking your so called "hard earned" money - that you wouldn't have got for most of you,- if you hadn't had mommy and daddy big bucks put you so far ahead that you could go to good school and get a good job with no real debt like someone who has to work for everything. It's time you learned what its like for the rest of us. If this is socialism --so be it. I am not alone. I am a born again Christian, active in my church, and behind the scenes pray for the end of the rich rat race materialism we have here. It IS classicism and welcome to it. You've been living on the hog too long. There are thousands of us out here in the church. We keep our views to ourselves while praising God with you. Your time is coming.

Jesus was not afraid to make his position known. If we publicly endorse a politician when they sin publicly we must also let it be known we had no problems with pointing out Clinton's issues publicly but with the GOP we pretend like we do not know. God has given us Christians a gift called discernment and we are expected to use it. It is not okay to just go an vote for a candidate and then say "oh well, God is in control". We are to pray, seek His Will, and ask for wisdom and discernment". We are then to act on that discernment.

What really concerns me in this election is the real polarization between left and right. It is either Obama the Muslim, Marxist, terrorist supporting, socialist, or McCain the old, senile, lying, Bush supporting, war mongering fool. If this continues, then I don't think that we have to worry about Osama and his pals winning - we will self destruct and destroy our own country from within. I can just see Osama sitting in his cave in Pakistan cheering us on.

When the polling companies start calling Canadian cell phones and allowing me to select my choice for the next US president me thinks that the credibility of the polls just went down. Are they polling people in the Carribean islands as well that have area codes?

Who cares Crazy Canuck? There's only one meaningful poll ... the one held November 4. Polls are for politicians. Partisans who need to be pumped up can also derive pleasure from them. Why would anyone else care?

Please let's stop being such Christian hypocrites! Stop using the bible to manipulate people! Stop doing God's job in judging! We only hear about abortion during an election! Where is the discussion of abortion, fornication, homosexuality, pornography, adultery, etc from the pulpit throughout the year! It is the church who should be promoting these social programs to help people who are faced with unwanted pregancies, job lost, pornography, health care, homosexuality, sexual immorality, sexual abuse, etc! The problem isn't Obama or our gov't, the problem is the failure of the church!! We have strayed away from the msg of God! We have mega churches with people suffering in them in the areas above! We pay thousands of dollars to preachers to come out and speak (and their entourage) for one day! I mean from $5,000 to $50,000. Yet we can't develop programs above to empower people, to give hope and to let them know they have other choices besides abortion or homosexuality, etc etc! We also spend thousands of dollars in socialism in other countries, but we call that humanitarism!! We shouldn't be depending on our gov't for social programs, we should depend on the churches for that!! Now we are spending all this spiritual energy on terrorizing people not to vote for Obama (simply A MAN)and to pray that OUR WILL be done through God; praying in secret that Obama is not elected! We are no longer a peculiar people, but a scarry people! Obama is an imperfect Christian MAN running for an imperfect office! He is not a terrorist, not a muslim, not a socialist, not a communist, and especially not the anti-Christ as implied by some Christians! He is no more those things than Sarah Palin is the Esther or Deborah of today! He has been slammed over and over on his imperfect character/flaws. Is Obama that far out of God's reach?! Was the Apostle Paul's heart to far for God to reach! Was mines?! Would Jesus react the way that we are reacting; in fear and trembling knowing we serve a JUST God; an OMNIPOTENT God, a OMNIPRESENT God!! Nothing is happening that God doesn't know about! Nothing will happen that is not the will of God to fulfill God's purpose and not our own!! God's concerns is not Obama nor McCain, but His church!! So let's pray, but pray SINCERELY the will of God for His people to rise up and do what we are suppose to be doing as a child of God!! Let's not only pray before the election, but throughout the year concerning our gov't leaders, nation, church body, and every issue with a sincere heart of repentence for straying away from His word of love, peace, forgiveness, unity and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!! Be blessed!

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant, I noticed my server had on an "Obama '08" tie.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and I explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need --- the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more than the server. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money that he had earned.

Thanks for the insight Crazy Canuck. I used to panic when I saw the polls swing one way or the other. Always had thought that they were conducted in a scientific manner. Have not paid much attention in this election though as I believe that most polls are slanted towards whoever commissions them. Thanks for confirming that the errors are as bad as our voter registration system. Do dead people get to vote in Canada as well?

Perhaps Canada needs to send down some international election observers like you have done in other parts of the world. Someone impartial to call out the erros and fraud in our system. Seems to me that America is not much better these days than some African countries in terms of elections

I fear that judgment is already upon our nation because we as Christians have failed to pray. We need to pray for our leaders, we need to pray for the lost. Quite simply we just need to pray. Turn off the TVs, turn off the Internet and get on our knees and pray.

Yea, judgment is coming in the form of Barack Obama. If you are in a progressive church then you might be okay. Obama and his team are getting lots of support from the progressive, open minded churches.

I'm not sure of the point here, but it is certainly not consistent with the Gospel of Jesus. Perhaps Ayn Rand or other such fine examples of morality, but not scripture.

A couple of major networks were reporting that they had found Obamas aunt living in Chicago. I think that they were trying to make the point that she was in a very poor place and Obama was not trying to help her. However the real concern was that it was reported that she said that she could not talk to the media until after Nov 4. What is that all about????????????

What is being hidden here? Barry, Barack or whatever his name is goes to Hawaii to make sure that his grandmother doesn't talk to the media, and now the aunt admits that she can't say anything until after the election.

I don't see Palin's friends or parents under a gag order.

    Great article below:

I am an evangelical Christian with a record of voting in line with the Republican Party. This year, however, I am casting my vote for Barack Obama. My support for Obama stands on its own, and has been well documented throughout this blog. But why would an evangelical Christian vote for a Democrat? The answer is as much a reflection of what Obama stands for as it is what the GOP does not.
Last week I received an email from Dr. James Dobson – whose internet ministry I subscribe to – imploring me to “vote my values,” meaning to vote for the candidate whose “pro-life” and pro traditional marriage rhetoric carried Dr. Dobson’s stamp of approval. My immediate thought was: Why should I vote two of my values to the exclusion of all others? In that question lies the problem of the Christian allegiance to the Republican Party.
Since this country’s founding, Christians have politicized Biblical values (we have as much right to do so as any other group that wants this nation to reflect its beliefs) and have helped the U.S. become a beacon of light to the world. The problem, I now realize, with the union of Christians to the GOP, is that we’ve aligned ourselves with a spokes group that sees Christians as nothing more than a voting bloc to pander to with lip service about two passion-evoking issues while ignoring other values that form the core of our beliefs. And as they grip our hearts with life and marriage, the GOP exploits our values to demonize or vilify those with opposing viewpoints.
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
    John 13:34-35
GOP leadership has (perhaps with the willing participation of some Christian leaders) twisted and distilled our values to the point where we are just hot-button sound bites wrapped up in a platform designed to benefit the wealthy and corporate classes. In the process, they have turned uninformed Christians (me among them) into “single-issue voters,” sheepishly towing the Party line while it exploits the name of God and bastardizes our ideals to foment hatred, division and racism and to engender animosity toward Christians by associating us with a platform that is anathema to God’s love.
The party that sprang back to executive power in 2001 (never mind 1994’s broken “contract with America”) did so headed by a self-professed Christian who took no issue with smearing his opponent (John McCain) with the racist lie that he’d illegitimately fathered a mongrel child. George Bush went on to run not only two of the most vile campaigns in recent memory, but also to hold one of the most deceptive and secretive presidencies ever (kudos to Nixon for the one-upmanship).
Today’s GOP wants to strike out further, exploiting Christian principles to preach a message of hate, division, racism and confused class warfare. Whether it be Nancy Pfotenhauer proclaiming that northern Virginia – which is leaning toward Obama – is not the “real Virginia”, Joe McCain (John’s brother) calling blue-leaning Arlington and Alexandria “communist country”, Michele Bachmann calling for a congressional witch hunt to weed out congressmen – like Obama, apparently – who are “anti-American”, Sarah Palin calling small towns in “red states” the home of “real Americans” (not to mention her derision of community organizers), or Robin Hayes claiming that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God”, the GOP is doing all it can in the waning days of this campaign to create sloganized hatred and division in this country. And with the “Joe the Plumber” tour, John McCain is trying to trick Americans into falling for the perverse lie that somehow working-class, blue collar tradesmen are economically aligned with the top 5% of wage earners and are on the losing end of a mythical “class warfare” that Obama is waging against the working class. And as if that’s not a far enough transgression, the GOP is on a “religious crusade” to paint all Arabs and Muslims as evil terrorists and to “otherize” a respected United States Senator and fellow Christian who is running for President and happens to be African-American, calling him every conceivable demonized and incendiary word other than (and in at least one notable case, including) coming out and saying “he’s black.” And if they cannot win again through fear, division and racism, the GOP is fully prepared to use the subterfuge of voter fraud to conceal their disgusting efforts at voter disenfranchisement (each word links to a separate news article).
GOP strategists have substituted hatemongering for the love of God. And some Christian leaders are complicit in this twisted endeavor. At a recent McCain rally in Davenport, Iowa, Arnold Conrad, former Pastor of the Grace Evangelical Free Church, while leading the invocation, said
I would also pray, Lord, that Your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god – whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah – that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that You would guard Your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than You, if that happens. So I pray that You will step forward and honor Your own name with all that happens between now and Election Day.
So now God’s reputation is maligned if Obama wins? What of the fact that Obama is a Christian? And what of the Christians who are praying for Obama? Trading on the name of God to castigate your political opponent and recklessly fan the flames of racial, ethnic, religious and socio-economic discord is not of God. And yet, in spite of that, the GOP wants Christians to be co-conspirators in a fundamental breach of Christ’s commandment – the modern equivalent of betraying Christ for 30 pieces of silver – in exchange for the perpetually unfulfilled promise that they will one day overturn Roe v. Wade? Are we actually going to let ourselves fall victim to cookie-cutter religiosity – voting one value while casting all others into the abyss?
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
    Luke 4:18-19
Christians have a ministerial calling to provide aid and comfort to those in our society who are poor and oppressed. These persons also represent our values. And yet the benevolent (and otherwise “small government”) Republican party, which has decided that it’s the Federal government’s duty to protect the life of unborn children, wants to leave those children out in the cold when they need healthcare. For the uber-Christian GOP has determined that though unborn children have a right to life, children who are born to economically depressed parents (who are, by the way, disproportionately represented in the statistics of those seeking abortions) do not have the right to life-sustaining healthcare. John McCain’s policies, while making insurance more – and perhaps cripplingly – expensive for working class Americans, do nothing to ensure that the 47 million uninsured Americans have access to insurance and that all children have a right to insurance.
Likewise, the “compassionate conservatives” who want us to “vote our values” use the power they achieve because of those votes to call for tax policies that place a disproportionate burden on struggling Americans (including the Christians who blindly voted their values) while the wealthiest citizens reap disproportionate tax benefits (talk about engendering class warfare). How can the Republican party care about addressing poverty when it’s tax policies actually create poverty? And how can the Republican Party care about its Christian base when it’s economic and health policies actually harm us and the people we’re called to minister to? The notion that we ought to elect a party that robs us of our health and wealth while blaspheming the name of God just because that party waxes rhetorically about the sanctity of life is beyond insulting.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
    2 Timothy 2:15
God wants Christians to not only possess knowledge of the Bible, but also to excel in the knowledge of our trade and to generally possess a dedication to learning that befits a creation endowed with such vast reserves of learning potential. Yet the McCain campaign and GOP operatives are waging a war against intelligence. Whether it’s manipulating the fact that Obama overcame poverty to become a Harvard educated professor who correctly pronounces “Pakistan” to call him an effete elitist, or asking Americans to vote based on slogans (like “Joe Six Pack” or “Joe the Plumber”) that have no relation to reality, Republicans are actually trying to vilify intellectualism (further helping along that class warfare in the process).
When did the party of Teddy Roosevelt decide it was politically expedient to champion mediocrity? With the various “Joe” slogans, Republicans insult blue collar workers everywhere by expecting them to vote for the candidate who’s willing to talk “folksy” and drink a beer with them all the while lying about the fact that “Joes” across America will be worse off under McCain’s tax policies than under Obama’s.
But the poster-child for the Republican assault on intelligence is the once honorable John McCain’s running mate, who, by the way is also an affront to Christians. While professing Christianity, Sarah Palin has shown a penchant for lying whenever she opens her mouth. Whether she’s making up the story that the Alaska legislature fully exonerated her of abuse-of-power charges, proclaiming that Obama is an anti-American terrorist sympathizer, calling Obama a socialist (and now, a communist) who will raise all our taxes and “redistribute wealth”, or reveling in the hatred and rage she incites at her rallies, Palin has proven herself to be a lying, vengeful, slanderous hypocrite who uses Christianity as a resume booster.
She is also an unabashed anti-intellectual. While she’s not insulting working Americans by speaking with a hokey, sixth-grade-reading-level dialect (as though working Americans are too stupid to understand and relate to anything else), Gov. Palin is expecting the American people to swallow the proverbial tripe that she’s qualified potentially for the highest office in the world by virtue of (1) her ability to see Russia, (2) her overseeing of a national guard that might – any day now (whenever Putin “rears his head”) – be called on to defend the U.S. against a highly improbable Russian invasion of Alaska, (3) her recent U.N. coming out party where she, for the first time in her life, met foreign leaders, (4) the fact that her international travel experience is limited to a trip to Kuwait and Germany to visit Alaska National Guard troops – a trip for which she obtained her first passport – last year, and (5) her governance of an oil-rich state. We’re also supposed to ignore the fact that she cannot make it through softball television interviews – for which she had weeks to prepare – without stumbling incoherently through answers to even the simplest of policy questions and getting hopelessly stumped at both the fundamental questions – whether she agrees with the Bush doctrine, and the “gimme” questions – what newspapers she reads.
And after weeks on the campaign trail, she has yet to demonstrate the desire – as Colin Powell put it, the “intellectual curiosity” – to become a student of the serious international and domestic policy issues that she has no comprehension of but seeks to be in charge of. It was appalling that, in her only debate, Gov. Palin excused her inability to answer questions important to the American people by saying “how long have I been at this, like five weeks?” If she cared about anything other than smiling, winking and regurgitating campaign talking points, Palin would have used that “five weeks” to attempt to seriously consider some solutions to our national and international issues.
In that regard, Palin is an insult and a slap in the face to Christians. When stripped of her contrived “qualifications” we are left with a candidate whose only redeeming quality – with regard to the Christian base for whom she was nominated – is that she is a professed Christian who is pro life. And the implication is that Christians are either too stupid, too emotional, or too single-minded to see through her support for our values to the fact that she is woefully unqualified and was selected merely as a pandering tool. Sarah Palin embodies the ultimate betrayal of the trust that we placed in the Republican Party to champion our message.
I am unashamedly pro life and pro traditional marriage. Christ is also, though he would condemn abortion clinic bombers (who, by the way, Ms. Palin, notwithstanding your attempt to dodge the question and pander to the lunatic fringe of your “base”, are terrorists). And though He obviously did not condone the practices of the sinners of His day, Jesus walked among them, rather than separating His followers from them, for to those persons was His ministry.
True, Obama is not pro-life (though he is against gay marriage), but his stance on abortion is conciliatory, rather than divisive: “We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country.” That statement is from his nomination acceptance speech. Obama is thus sincere enough to admit that though he has a differing opinion with fellow Christians on an important issue, he is willing to work together to solve a potentially divisive problem in a way that may remove the impetus for women to seek abortions. It is that desire to unite and seek common ground rather than divide that separates Obama/Biden from McCain/Palin.
I do not have any messianic delusions about Obama, but his career background and political message indicate that he has tapped into Christ’s message, and that he understands that a leader must be an advocate for all of us, not just those in his voting bloc. Contrast Obama’s message in his national introduction speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention with the divisive message of the Republican Party.
…there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America; there’s the United States of America. There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. The pundits…like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue States: red states for Republicans, blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states. We coach little league in the blue states and, yes, we’ve got some gay friends in the red states. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq, and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. In the end, that’s what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism, or do we participate in a politics of hope?
Whether it be his early work as a community organizer and civil rights attorney, his achievement of bipartisan support for ethics and healthcare reform and higher tax credits for low-wage workers while in the Illinois Senate, his involvement with police organizations to enact death penalty reforms and seek an end to racial profiling, or his efforts at improving fiscal transparency (on which he received bipartisan support from John McCain, among others), criminalizing voter intimidation and improving healthcare and education while in the U.S. Senate, Obama has a record of bridging divides, reaching across party lines and working to end the social inequalities that plague the ethnically and economically disadvantaged members of our society. That balanced, unifying leadership is the kind of leadership we need in the White House. We need a leader that restores a sense of hope in a unifying purpose for this country.
[P]art of what has been lost these past eight years can’t just be measured by lost wages or bigger trade deficits. What has also been lost is our sense of common purpose, and that’s what we have to restore…. [T]his, too, is part of America’s promise, the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort.
Barack Obama, 2008 Democratic Nomination Acceptance Speech
We are a nation of fault lines. The oneness that saw us through the Great Depression and World War II to become the greatest, most powerful and benevolent nation on Earth has been replaced with a fractured society, defined by social discord and plagued by smoldering racial, economic, class and political tensions. We have become a selfish, individualistic, win-at-all-costs society that seems to only recall a unifying purpose in times of national tragedy. While this predicament is not the fault of one political party, no post-Cold War president has yet called Americans to a purpose higher than themselves. And the narrative-stealing “change” agents on the other side have demonstrated that they merely want to help America further dissolve into national obscurity.
As I’ve said before, Barack Obama pledges to change that course, “to bring to our highest office the wisdom, the morals, the ideals and the people necessary to steer the American psyche back on course…to restore in this country a sense of collective purpose and unified destiny.” Having the potential to be more than just a president, Barack is poised to be a transcendent, generational leader both embodying and effectuating reconciliation and restoration. That’s the change we need – a leader who simultaneously calls America back to a time when we were unified in collective pursuit of the “American promise” and forward to a present and future where we can actually attain that promise; a leader committed to genuinely helping the disadvantaged classes in our society achieve equality of opportunity.
These are values Christians can vote for. Obama’s platform calls for providing realistic educational, economic and healthcare opportunities for the poor, for the socially disadvantaged and for the economically distressed workers in our society. Obama’s vision – the veracity of his belief in which is borne out by his record – is for a country where Christians can fellowship with Muslims, where white Americans can break bread with black Americans, where “liberals” can find common ground with “conservatives”. Obama’s pledge is to restore America as a beacon of light for the world. This platform represents a more holistic cross-section of Christian values; for while Christians will not (and should not) agree with every stance taken by another social or religious group, our ministry is to the world and, thus, our political focus should be on electing leaders who not only advocate a broad swath of our values – thereby exhibiting our values to the world – but also effectuate restorative policies that will help those most in need. The time has come to do away with politics that pander to one of our values while employing rhetoric that spawns division and hatred and policies that do the most harm. The time has come for change. This is Barack Obama’s time.

Hahahaha... you Republicans are sooo funny! It blows my mind that you really do believe these silly things you say! It is easy to see which of you listen to comedian Rush Limbaugh and take anything he says seriously. You use some of the same catch phrases that he does. Obviously, some of you believe the nonsense being broadcast on Fox News (or was that "Fox Noise" or "Faux News"?)

Get used to saying the phrase "President Obama". You'll be hearing it a lot over the next four years.

America has just elected a communist. For the first time thanks to Disneycrats irrational anger and total lack of understanding on the issues, America has just fallen to communism; God help us.

Bedroom slipper wearing citizens who walked out in public for the first time in their lives: newly registered voters who never see the light of day regarding politics came out to cast their most ignorant and wasted vote of history.

The stupidity of democrats and most Americans today is beyond belief, but despairing Democrats who didn't appreciate that they were not attacked on our soil by terrorists since 911 will now get that chance that they missed.

Not only will we be attacked now due to the inept Jimmy Czarter the II (Obozo), many will be killed as a result.

But the day of reckoning has come and the end of liberals is at hand. This is a painful blessing in disguise. The tribulation has begun and the threshing machine has is on the move.

Naturally those who wont survive a real attack on American soil will be Democrats who think govt will be there to aid them when the bombs start dropping and UN troops come rolling down their streets to round them up.
Justice will be severe, and swift.

We need to pray for our country like we have never prayed before. This is not about politics, this is not about race. This is about a leadership that does not espouse American values that we have held since the foundation of our nation.

The acceptance speech last night seemed so anti-climatic. Predictions were that at least one million people would be on hand to celebrate. Police and even our left leaning media report at maximum 125,000. That is a far cry from the million fans that were supposed to be there. What happened? Were peoples eyes opened after they voted and did they suddenly realize what they had done.

I hold no hate toward our new president. As a man I respect him and love him as Christ as commanded us to do. However, that does not mean that I have to accept the principalities and powers that are operating in the spiritual realm behind this election.
