We Endorse John McCain
It will surprise no one that Charisma is endorsing John McCain for president of the United States. The actual endorsement will appear in our October issue, in the mail on Sept. 15. You are getting an advance copy here.
But what may surprise you is why we chose him over the other candidate. We understand why some like Barack Obama. He is young and personable, and his call for change is something that resonates with many Americans. He has reached out to the evangelical community as has no other Democrat since Jimmy Carter. And he is clear when he articulates his Christian faith, even though he has stated publicly that
Christianity is not the only road to heaven. We applaud the fact that Obama is the first African-American to be nominated by a major party. We believe it's time America elected a person of color as president.
But otherwise we can't support him. One reason is his lack of experience. He does not have one major accomplishment to his name in his life as a public servant. Another reason is his view on the sanctity of life. Even though he told me in a meeting with Christian leaders in June that he does not believe in abortion, he says the first thing he'll do as president is pass the Freedom of Choice Act, a law which would annihilate every state law limiting or regulating abortion, including the federal ban on partial birth abortion. This nation is greatly divided on the issue of abortion. But most evangelicals agree that abortion is wrong. I believe this issue alone will cause many Americans who would otherwise vote for a likeable candidate such as Obama to vote against him.
The third reason we cannot support Obama is his sympathy toward those who are attempting to legitimize homosexuality. Since the beginning of recorded history, marriage has been defined as a union between one man and one woman, an institution designed by God for the primary purpose of bringing children into the world and raising them in a family. But radicals in our country now want to change the definition to include unions between two people of the same sex. Many of them are also pushing for the passage of legislation that would give homosexuals special legal rights and that would protect them from "hate speech," loosely defined as language that criticizes them in any way, even if it is based on biblical beliefs. We must not elect a leader who will support this legislation or aid the homosexual agenda in any way—because if same-sex marriage is ever legalized or protected on a national level, there will be no turning back.
But the argument against Obama and for McCain goes beyond their levels of experience and their stands on abortion and homosexuality. There is a basic difference in their philosophies of government. McCain is for limited government, and Obama sees government as the solution to all major problems in society. As Marc Nuttle says in his book Moment of Truth, the Democrats would take us down a dark path toward big government. Such a government would limit our freedoms and increase oppressive control. Picture France and Germany—and then contrast this image with that of the America McCain would lead. Below, I give you an opportunity to get a copy of this important book. Click Here
In an interview with Rick Warren at Saddleback Church in August, McCain and Obama gave answers that were polar opposites. When asked about evil, Obama mentioned Darfur and child abuse—both standard liberal answers. But McCain didn't hedge about evil in the world. He said he'd stop at nothing to get Osama bin Laden. He wants to bring our troops home from Iraq, but only "in victory and with honor," while Obama has said he'd be willing to negotiate with terrorist governments such as Iran. View Interview Here
McCain would allow offshore drilling to solve the dependence on Middle Eastern oil. Obama would oppose it. And they would each support very different candidates for the Supreme Court.
In the Saddleback interview, McCain was strong, decisive and honest about himself in a way that caught everyone by surprise. (If you missed the interview, you can click here to watch it.)McCain is a true American hero who has served this country well in Congress for nearly 25 years. He has a history of bipartisanship, yet he is definitely his own man—something that comes through in his interview with me that will also appear in the October issue of Charisma.
Now there is an extra reason to vote for John McCain—his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate. I applaud him for this wise choice. As you probably know, Palin's record as a strong conservative on issues such as anti-abortion, pro-family and a supporter of gun rights have rallied the Republican Party's conservative base and at the same time sent the liberal left into a frenzy. Later I'll write about Gov. Palin, but first I want a chance to interview her personally and to research her background.Interestingly for a magazine that has served the Pentecostal/charismatic community for more than three decades, Sarah Palin has an Assemblies of God background. That's not reason alone to vote for her—just as John McCain's record as a war hero alone doesn't make him qualified to be president. But it does tell me something about her values and belief system. I'll opine more about this later.
To me, the choice is clear: Obama's presidency would be a disaster in many ways; McCain's would move our country in the right direction. We urge you to encourage everyone you know to back John McCain and vote for him on November 4.

I will continue to support Barack Obama for President. I am a Christian, someone that God allowed free choice. Who am I to take that away from anyone? God placed Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and told them what to do, and what to eat. He didn't remove the tree, but gave them a choice to obey him or not. Who am we to take that away those freedoms from anyone? Every consequence has an action, and it is up to us to determine what path we will choose. Not government to determine it for us.

Why is that evangelical\conservative magazines continue to endorse republican candidates blindly...just 'cause they are republican. When it comes to serving the poor, helping children and other less fortunate..democrats seem to be there. Where are the republicans? Aren't these Jesus commandments to us?

Thank you for a pretty straighforward explanation. Unfortunately, after the history of the last eight years, there is no way in which one can credibly argue that McCain, as a Republican, stands for, believes in, or will act in such a way as to bring about more "limited government". I suppose that the problem is simply a lack of knowledge on your part, but wonder whether that is excusable. Government is much bigger now, the debt and deficit is much higher now, government intrusion is much greater now, than before, even to the point where the administration has asserted and exercised the right to jail American citizens without cause, evidence or trial forever, as well as the right to torture. This is almost absolute power, and most of it was accrued under the Republican legislative dominance prior to 2006. The Iraq war itself has been kept off the books, and financed by borrowed money. Republicans want more government, bigger government, and more expensive government. That is the historical record. They simply want to do different things with it, and to serve different financial interests, including cronies, such as the oil companies or KBR/Halliburton. Corruption and no bid contracts are not sanctified or scriptural. One can support or question the priority of those interests, but one cannot honestly and credibly say that Republicans and McCain believe in or would bring about smaller or limited government. Your other reasons for voting against Obama, notwithstanding the fact that the lack of personal morality on the part of McCain is now deemed "old news" and irrelevant, are sincere and understandable. This one is not.

I am not surprised by your support of McCain. However, your wrong let me point to several key points. First, McCain hasn't had any executive experience either that you proclaim he has had. If we don't bring our troops home what will happen to the continual killing of our young men and women. I guess their lives don't matter? As to the issues the econonmy isn't MCCain or McWar strong points who will be running the country special interst groups just like with Bush. I hope your faith is strong you will need it in the months and years to come when and if he is elected. Don't ask GOD for any help he knows your heart and why you support McCain for real. He is WHITE. Stop the hate. If you love the lord see this as it is. God wouldn't have allow Obama to get this far in this process if he wasn't working on his behalf. Your views on him are one-sided and of course racist overtones are all over your message. The evangencial are white people and MCCain stated exactly what you wanted to hear from him to avoid your feeling guilty for not voting for a Black man for president. Be clear god is not mocked and the country will pay for this moment in history. As a christian who do you believe your pastor or GOD? I am sure most evangs believe their pastors before GOD.

McCain got the questions before he was interviewed. He Cheated.
Why are you coming out for McCain after he chose Palin to run on the ticket with him? I am now questioning your judgement. I am a Christian, I am anti-abortion and against same sex marriage. I can't follow the thought patterns that are just concerned for me and my kind.

Christians Today Pray like never before for Sarah Palin so that the rage against life and family will be ended and she will rise up like an Esther to stop the abortion holocaust . http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin
You all HAVE to watch this video of Sarah Palin basically prophesying at her Church!
http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1766638341
Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. 4 For I and my people have been sold for destruction and slaughter and annihilation." Esther 7:3-4
What is more innocent and precious in the eyes of God than a Child created in his image and likeness that is to be born. If we are silent the rocks will cry out and there will be blood on our hands. This week at my Church a black minister from Africa Anselm Madubuko preached a sermons called "God is a God of blood." I like never before am stirred up by this revelation. The only blood that can heal our land is the blood of Christ. All other blood defiles the land, that is why even the sacrifices in the Old Testament where made on an altar and not on the soil. Yet we as the Church for the sake of convenience are silent. Yet we are called to care for the blood of even the wicked..
7 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for [a] his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself. Ezekiel 33:7-9
The more so we should care for our children.
36 The LORD said to me: "Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their detestable practices, 37 for they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, [e] as food for them. 38 They have also done this to me: At that same time they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my Sabbaths. 39 On the very day they sacrificed their children to their idols, they entered my sanctuary and desecrated it. That is what they did in my house.
Ezekiel 23:36-39

I agree with almost everything you have said here except for the part about marriage being between one man and one woman since the beginning of time. The Bible is full of examples of Godly men having multiple wives. That is not one-to-one.

Steve, many of your comments make a lot of sense, even to those who will likely support Sen. Obama. I am more than a bit concerned, however, when you suggest that "Christianity is the only way to heaven..." Jesus Christ said, "I am the way..." He did not say, "Christianity is the way"... America, and our world, need more true followers of Jesus and less Christianizing...

Thank you for letting me know, as a new subscriber, your choice for President. I respect your decision. However, I CANNOT support John McCain.
He gives a good "speech" to the veterans and promises them that he will support them. Well, in his home state of Arizona -- where I live, he has worked to the contrary! He finds little support in several of the veterans' service organizations. My husband is a veteran!
In addition, I can not help him and Ms. Palin continue Bush's 3rd term! As a female, I am appalled that John McCain would select Sarah Palin as his running mate. It is obvious that he chose her not as his best running mate, but only because of her gender.
As an independent voter, I am investing my vote in Barack Obama!

to the anonymous person who supports choice....
The problem with your theory is that people choosing abortion aren't given an informed choice. They are lied to about what they are choosing between. They arent told that they are ending a life in the most painful and brutal way imaginable. They aren't told the mental, emotional & spiritual efect they suffer after having chosen to take the life of another person.
The question isn't, "who are we to take away the freedom of choice?" the question should be who are we that we should be "who are we to play God by taking a life that he gave?"

Jesus commandes us the Church the Body of Christ to take care of the poor the widows & orphans. The republicans & decocrats or even independants are even mentioned. IF the church did its job the government would have to.

I honestly can not believe how blind most of the people leaving comments are, and how easily swayed they are by the media and its support of Barack Huessain Obama. John McCain is a true American hero. Obama has no experience whatsoever unless you count organizing bingo games as a community organizer. Obama is the most liberal senator out there. Obama is nothing but a "post turtle" he did not get where he is by himself and he is not going anywhere by himself! Shame on anyone who votes for this man.

I dont understand why you have to support anyone. Your a business, not an individual with a right to vote.
Why not pray that God give His people discernment in their hearts to vote for who God wants them to vote for?
I find this article unChristlike. It's as if you almost dont trust in the Lord to provide the people with the appropriate leader, so you must email us to indicate your choice.
I suggest we pray to our God for wisdom in who we should vote for. We must depend on Him, no matter who gets voted in, that this matter is in the His hands.

Many of us voted Republican because of the gay marriage issue and all we got was the most corrupt administration since the days of Nixon. I have nothing against Palin, however if it had been Obama's daughter that was pregnant then he'd have been blasted to kingdom come by all the church folks. And if it had been Obama who left his wife for a hot young one then many would be on the attack.
Lastly, about the whole "Hussein" attack, most of us don't pick our middle name. And how many nut jobs have been named "John Wayne" in America. I guess a lot of Klansmen still hide behind their Bible.

To Eric. No the Bible does not support multiple marriages, in fact it describes the consequences in detail for Solomon choosing multiple wives. Everything the Bible says isn't what the Bible supports, but the Bible gives an account of the situation. So when you read the Bible in that light you can see what the Bible really says. Jesus said that in the beginning God ordained that a man would leave his parents and cling to his wife and Peter enforced the unity of marriage being one man and one woman.

I support Barack Obama. Your organization has a right to present a position, and your position is neither surprising nor persuasive.
I am a US Citizen living abroad and my concern is primarily the vision and role of the US internationally. The destruction that was unleashed upon Iraq on the direct command of a Republican president is not the same as giving people the freedom to choose their lifestyle. It is for the Church to provide the example of godly lifestyles, godly choices and godly standards to persuade others to follow the way of God.
Obama provides a different hope for America internationally to present itself, once again, as a nation that can be respected and admired.
The lack of experience as a public servant you is also not persuasive. What is needed is not experience in Government, but the ability to marshall the country forward. Sometimes lack of experience in big government is the best thing.

I am sick and tired of folks especially people who are leaders in the Church inadvertly giving their "opinions" about who they are going to vote for. Everyone is given freedom to choose, even those of us who know, love and worship the True and Living God. God continues to give us a choice. Why is it so difficult for us to allow others to make their own decisions without trying to influence the choices of others?
Well, we thank you so much for expressing your choice, but know that for some of us it will not impact the decision that we make to vote our conscience.

I am still patiently waiting for your candidate John McCain to do the same as Barack Obama. I am a pro life and anti-homosexual christian, but I am sick and tire of the so-called christian evangelical comes out every four years with the same two issues. What about taking care of the poor, healthcare, medicare, environment etc? It is high time to concentrate on the whole-life.

I live in a country outside America and cannot for the life of me work out why the American church (and in this case Strang Publishing) needs to make an endorsement of any candidate. In my country the church sees its job as helping people make an informed decison by hosting debates and pointing out issues that God may care about, but it never endorses - it leaves that decison to individuals who can actually vote. With essentially only two parties to choose from, you have forced yourself to choose one over the other - and perhaps niether are worthy of our support as Christ followers. Your email is just plain wierd and shows itself to be more American than it is Christian.

I am deeply disappointed that you have decided to use this great magazine to air your personal views. To compound the problem you highlighted your reasons but did not give us what God said. Lee O'Grady wrote about the lack of discernment in this same episode yet you have not really shown if you were dissecting Obama by that same gifting. If God decides to choose a David despite his yotuh and imperfections over Eliab who was a man of war, decorated and skilled who are we to question him? I think we all need to be careful here and not say what God has not expressly told us. I support Obama and won't vote on sentiment. I saw him 18 months ago and knew there was something about this guy that shouts moment of destiny. he is going to shock McCain just as he shocked Hillary Clinton. The whole Clinton machinery could not stop him and so also will McCain not be able to stop him. This guy made a true conversion unlike McCain whose story we do not know. McCain does not represent the evangelicals and adding Palin does not alter that fact.

I am saddened by the devisiveness in the Church concerning this election. I am saddened by those who continually insist on making race an issue. Obama is a gifted orator but how anyone can translate that to on par to possessing the experience to lead our great nation in these troubled and dangerous times is beyond common sense. His rhetoric has become the opiate of the people in my opinion. He has abstained from numerous votes in the Senate for who knows what good reasons. He has absolutely no experience to lead our great nation. I think Joe Lieberman said it well. Perhaps someday Obama will be ready to lead our country but he is not ready now. There is absolutely no tangible evidence to the contrary.
Getting angry and calling someone a racist about this fact makes no sense whatsoever.

Your endorsement of John McCain while not unexpected is based on hypocrisy. This publication has always supported Republicans, period. This publication is also racist. The Republican party has always claimed it stood for moral and family values. Its editor is constantly harping on immorality in its leaders yet it has given John McCain a morality free pass. Check his marital history. Now you seek to justify teenage pregnancy, premarital sex, and lack of parental control. If a person cannot keep their children in school, both Palin's daughter and her baby's father dropped out, how can she be expected to run the USA. This endorsement flies in the face of everything this publication and the Republican party has ever stood for. It turned liberal overnight with the selection of a young, white female. This was a dishonest selection by John McCain for the wrong reasons. There are hardly any people of color at the convention as evidenced by TV. It is clearly a white male dominated event, like it always has been. The Republican party is attempting to sell us Christians a bag of goods and I for one am not buying it. You must think we got off the boat yesterday. Gov. Palin must be rejected for all the reasons the Republican party has beat up liberals and moderates in the past. She does not pass the sniff test. Sorry, I am not buying it!! How can Christians be pro-life (against abortion) but pro-death (for the death penalty) at the same time. I am pro-life from cradle to grave. Tell the truth. You are not supporting Barack Obama because he is a black man. If his teenage daughter was pregnant, unmarried and a high school drop out this publication based on its prior history would be eating him alive. You guys need to do an integrity and Bible check!

I am not American although I've been following this election with keen interest.
As an outsider, I will caution Mr. Strang and other Christians who are quick to condemn Sen. Obama. Obama may not have provided succinct answers to the questions asked by Rev. Rick Warren however let us not forget the answer he provided to the question about evil. He provided a profound answer while Sec. McCain's answer had a rather narrow minded view.
Christians should not also forget that God is able to use whoever He desires to accomplish His purposes. America has deviated from its Christian principles so much that it has become a country that needs to go back to seek the Lord's face.
Now do Republican Christians think that having Sen.McCain as president will cause American to be Christian? Or, is it an issue of limiting God's Supremacy and Sovereignty if Obama were to be president.
I would sound a note of caution to Mr. Strang and all Republican Christians to rather pray for America in these very turbulent times rather than demonize Sen. Obama.
The issue of Iraq has been interpreted in many ways and think about the untold sufferings Iraqi families have to go through because of this illegal war?
Mr. Strang, you have command of your articles however be circumspect in how you and other Republicans impose your ideas on others.
Thanks!

This is one more reason why all true Christians should expose fake people and organizations like yours, Dobson, and others. You guys are really politicians and 21st century pharisees masquerading as "Christians".
No where did you indicate that sought God's will in prayer.
No scriptural support for your choice/position.
You cherry pick issues that advance your agenda and conveniently ignore those that do not.
You would condemn the candidate you do not like for one reason and praise the candidate you like for the very same reason.
Most people subscribed to you to get spiritual nourishment not knowing that you have a different agenda.
Your interest is money and personal gain.
You patronise your black readership when you know very well that you would argue differently if Obama were a white male.
Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on you. Nothing in your writeup reflects the Jesus you claim to love.

McCain Rejects Parsley Endorsement
May 22, 2008 10:34 PM
ABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: Sen. John McCain rejected the endorsement of a second controversial pastor Thursday, saying there is no place for the Rev. Rod Parsley’s comments about Islam.
“I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement,” McCain said in a statement.
The rejection of Parsley’s endorsement comes several hours after McCain rejected the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee, who made controversial comments about the Holocaust and Catholics.
ABC News’s Brian Ross reported Thursday on "Good Morning America" that Parsley has called Islam “the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil,” and that Islam is an “anti-Christ religion that intends through violence to conquer the world.”

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Republican John McCain on Thursday rejected endorsements from two influential but controversial televangelists, saying there is no place for their incendiary criticisms of other faiths.
McCain rejected the months-old endorsement of Texas preacher John Hagee after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. McCain called the comment "crazy and unacceptable."
He later repudiated the support of Rod Parsley, an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent.
McCain issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing his decision about Hagee.
"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well," he said.

ABC News' Bret Hovell reports: As his Democratic rival wrapped up his European tour in France and London, Sen. John McCain attempted to steal back the media spotlight -- employing some Zen-like help from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The two met privately in Aspen, Colorado Friday before emerging from a private residence in Aspen. They walked out holding hands.
McCain said he was honored to meet with the Dalai Lama, and stressed the importance of his work for human rights.
"The Dalai Lama has time and again emphasized that he asked only that the Tibetan people are provided with basic rights to preserve their culture, language and religious beliefs," McCain said.
"His nonviolence approach and his lifelong approach of seeking common ground around cultural and religious divides are an inspiration for all of mankind and to millions of Americans."

I don't live in the US, so have been watching the run up to the presidency with a lot of interest, & at times amazement. While I understand your commitment to vote for somebody whose personal agenda on abortion & gay marriage you agree with, & by the way I totally agree with your views on that area, I can't help feeling you are missing the whole picture. The Bush administration is seen world wide as the epitomy of corruption & greed. The war in Iraq is being fought to protect your ability to gain access to relatively cheap oil & the US is seen as being out of step with the rest of the world. You ask if people would prefer a system of government like France or Germany & the American people should be saying yes please! At least they would then have access to a decent health system and some sort of livable benefit if they are unemployed or disabled. By the way, Sarah Palin may be rightly categorised as anti-abortion, but as somebody who is also protrayed as a gun advocate it is not valid to describe her as pro-life.

I'm a fundamentalist Christian who is going to "write in" Ron Paul on the ballot in Nov. God is completely soveriegn over every action of man, and as such whether Mccain, Obama, Paul, or whomever gets elected God will use them for God's purposes alone. I for one vote on principle and as there are no acceptable candidates besides Ron Paul, I'll vote for him, regardless of people saying I'm throwing my vote away. IF people want change in Washington it seems more likely to start with independents getting elected then it does Republicans or Democrats. If you study the founding father's wishes, you'll find they never wanted two parties to "control" the nation. We've fallen greatly from our heights we were founded on, but God is faithful so we need to be faithful. As someone already mentioned the best thing we can do is pray for this nation, and not focus on differences, instead find unity as a Christian people, and as Americans. God bless you and America.

Wow, when I read what "Anonymous wrote, 'I hope your faith is strong you will need it in the months and years to come when and if he is elected. Don't ask GOD for any help he knows your heart and why you support McCain for real. He is WHITE. Stop the hate. If you love the lord see this as it is. God wouldn't have allow Obama to get this far in this process if he wasn't working on his behalf'", I nearly passed out. Obama is half white, so if voting for either Obama or McCain is based upon them being "white" then I guess any way that you vote, you'll be voting for a white guy!
Maybe you are the one that is "hating", I don't know, I can't see your heart. But I also guess that God wouldn't have allowed Hitler to get as far as he did if He wasn't working on his behalf, right? That is skewed logic.
We need to vote based upon how the Holy Spirit would direct us. Fast, pray, seek, and ask and do what the Lord would have you to do even if it goes against what you feel like. Be obedient and vote according to God's word and God's choice. America needs strong Christan people to stand up for what is right. This is a country for the people - by the people, not for the people by the government.

I appreciate the information that this magazine continues to publish. We can only make appropriate decisions in our choices when we are informed to the utmost. Everyone has their own opinions of who would be the better leader of this great country of ours and the reasons differ as much as the people. We are truly blessed beyond measure that we are able to even have such open discussions much less express such varied opinions. We have CHOICES and I,for one, am grateful for that. Each candidate brings their own strengths as well as their own weaknesses. This is where wisdom from THE ONE WHO IS ABLE is extremely necessary. Each one of us needs to seek the guidance of the Almighty to see whom He would have us to vote for on November 4. Remember when Israel wanted a king and God gave them Saul? He removed himself from his people even though He gave them what they thought they wanted. We as believers in Jesus Christ need to unite in prayer as never before for our country and its leaders. God gives us the right to choose our path but with that comes the responsiblity of accepting the results of our choices. I pray that God, who is faithful and merciful, will not remove His hand of grace from this nation. Pray, fast, and seek His face and heart before you vote on November 4.

After reading through your endorsement, and then reading the comments....I AM SHOCKED at the lack of understanding of so-called Christians. What kind of gospel are we teaching? The American church has obviously failed to teach about "Spirit and truth". It is scary for me to think these kind of folks will vote! please I urge all readers here to be informed and line up the candidates' comments alongside Scripture.
American Christians wake up !

Though disappointed with your endorsement, I'm not surprised at your choice. A registered democrat, I voted for George Bush when he initially ran on family values, anti-gay marriage, etc; yet to my surprise the country lapsed significantly in each area during his tenure! As a Christian who believes the word of God from Genesis to Revelation, this republican party has consistently worked contrary to the book of love. Rather than caring for the less fortunate, pursuing peace, ensuring the liberty of all men and sharing in God's prosperity this party has continued the great divide. As "evangelicals" nothing has been done, other than talk to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to all. Our country will continue this downward trend until the leader declares his love for the Lord and live accordingly. Barack Obama has exemplified his love for the Lord, his spouse, children and family like none other. Not just in words, but in action. Unlike McCain, he doesn't demean his competitor, rather stays focused on the issues at hand. Obama is a wise man, and we all know that wisdom comes from God alone. I will continue to support him and trust God to continue to lead him in his efforts. As it relates to "experience", look at the current President. Does experience automatically equate to wisdom? I think not!

I will continue to support Barack Obama. I am against abortion, but, my opinion is that it will not change because it is a matter of the heart and doesn't belong in politics. I can't vote for a candidate based on two issues alone, issues that are mostly governed by state legislation, anyway. I think it is good that we can be brothers and sisters in the Lord and yet still hold different political views. Awesome.

Isn't it funny, how the title of the blog is WE ENDORSE JOHN MCCAIN.
When actually it should something like WHY WE HATE OBAMA.
Ok, maybe hate is a harsh word.
But WHY is Strang and his magazine playing the same game as the democrats (opponent bashing)?
I will answer that for you - because there is no difference between the Republicans and Democrats.
The more I live life, I am finding there is little difference between those professing their faith in public circles, and those wasting their lives away in bars or on drugs.
WHEN will the church WAKE UP??
The Republican party is NOT the answer to what ails the church. No matter who they pick, it is all the same - smoke and mirrors.
There IS a third party who is NOT criticizing the other candidates, they are STATING FACTS, and they are more closely aligned with CHRISTIAN values and the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES - more than the Republican and Democrats COMBINED!!
Chuck Baldwin is the man, and the Constitution Party is the one.

AS A BLACK AMERICAN WIDOW I THANK GOD I LIVED TO SEE A BLACK MAN THAT GOD ALLOWED TO GET TO THIS PLACE SO THAT OUR CHILDREN CAN SEE THAT THY CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST. AND THAT WE CAN CHOOSE THE PERSON WE WANT TO ELECT. AND YOU CAN BACK WHO YOU STEVEN STRANG. I HAVE BEEN GETTING THE CHRISMA FOR MANY YEARS.I AM DISSPOINTED BUT I ACCEPT YOU HAVE YOUR RIGHT OF CHOICE JUST AS I DO. Thank you for your article and for writing with such a clear explanation of why you are supporting McCain. I cry for all the babies that will never get to shed a tear under Obama's plan. His lack of support for the Born Alive Infant Protection act sealed my choice for McCain. I am thankful to live in a country where we are free to express our political views even when they are not the same. Although, I have been verbally attacked for expressing my support of McCain, I will continue to do so.

I must say that at first glance of your email that I was very dissapointed to see that you have used your magazine to personally endorse one candidate over the other. Who you vote for and the reasons why are yours. There is no way that I would ever use the Pulpit to tell our congregation who to endorse. I would only encourage them to excercise their freedom and get out there and "vote"! It is the responsibility of each american to do the reasearch and select a candidate they are led to chose! I have never blogged before, and this touched me so much that I felt I had to!

I have read so many comments about who to vote for and that is exactly what Mr. Strang is telling the readers. I pray he is not the main publisher of this Charisma because he just deflated my opinion of it and I dont want to do that. Is there anyone else at the wheels. They need to get the steering wheel before there is a bad collision. This country need to get on their face and seek the Lord and it should be left like that. I dont believe in same sex marriage nor abortion but if you are living a Godly lifestyle you wont have to hold guns on people to stop them from doing something that is against God. He gave free will and people will have to live with the choices they make.

I'm glad to see the Christians FINALLY endorsing McCain! How can Christians possibly believe in freedom and democracy and still vote for Obama's Socialist agenda? It is The Church's job to feed the hungry and help those in need...NOT the government's job to redistribute wealth.

I believe that the WORD of God is clear about righteousness exalting a land - and abortion and homosexuality are unrighteous acts and sins that defile any land. It is not about McCain or Obama it is about the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. The issue of compassion belongs to the church and not the government. I support McCain because of the points raised by Mr Strang and if you are truly Spirit led based on His WORD - you will understand what the warfare is about - the future of America spiritually. I am a Christian and I am neither a Republican nor Democrat. I want God's kingdom to come in America in my lifetime. I am also an African-American, but I rather will vote to uphold righteous laws for the sake of the land - 2 Chronicles 7:14

I must say that I am in no way surprised by Mr. Strang's support of McClain. The handwriting has been on the wall for some time. For the record, John McClain is no clearer on his religious beliefs than you accuse Obama of being. He said what he thought his backers wanted him to say at Saddleback, just like President Bush, and we all know how that has turned out. While I am not in favor of abortion or homosexuality, it continues to amaze me at how certain of the Christian family always manages to pull those two issues out of their self-righteous bag like no other sins or societal ills exist. You use those two issues to hide behind what the real issue is... "You don't think any African American is capable of leading this nation as President". The root of it is racism, plain and simple.

Mr. Strang;
I cannot personally believe anything that republicans say anymore, I dont care if John Mc Cain says that he is going nail himself to a cross,I still dont trust these people anymore. If Mc Cain became president he will most likley do something ungodly and then you will be writting an article about how no one had dicernment and how Christians should not have endoursed him just like all the ministers who fell that you once endoursed. Please be more careful about endoursing people.
I am not even endoursing Obama but I think I may have to vote for him because the Holy Spirit inside me says that something is very wrong with John McCain, he may be talking the talk but he is not going to walk the walk!

I am a Christian and I am supporting Sen. Obama. I have one question for all Christians who are basing their decision to vote for Sen. John McCain the two issues of abortion and gay marriage. Can you legislate morality? If so, why didn't Jesus change the laws of the land to Judeo-Christian beliefs. He didn't run for governor or to be ceasar, because he was focus on establishing a heavenly kingdom.

There is so much I disagree with in this article, but it can be summed up in one point:
Christians like the people of this magazine are sheep who listen to the rhetoric spouted off by the republicans and blindly cast their vote. In doing so you spout that the candidate is pro-life, anti-gay, and whatever silly issue you believe you are voting on.
Of course you ignore the fact that the Republicans are pro guns, pro war, pro torture, pro discrimination, and are more concerned with money than actually living according to the standard that Jesus set with his lifestyle.
I can see now that this is just another "north american watered down christianity" magazine that is more concerned with what a candidate for the president SAYS rather than what the candidate DOES.
McCain is a wife dumping, gold digging, lying, cheating, manipulating politician and should in no way be endorsed by any person claiming to be a servant of the Lord.
I can see now why McCain chose Palin as his vice. It is to steal the vote from ridiculously thoughtless sheep such as the ones that publish this magazine.

Wow. I can say that after reading the comments to this post I am ashamed to be a Christian in America. Not because of Steve's endorsement. I support his right to do that, and happen to agree. But people's response to it as appalling and ignorant. Christians don't "blindly" accept all republicans, I think most people "blindly" listen to the media and how they skew everything to the left. I cannot support someone who supports abortion, I cannot and will not. I cannot support someone who says in his book "Audacity of Hope" that one of his mentors is Jeremiah Wright who is a racist and very anti-american. I cannot support someone who cannot even provide his birth certificate and prove his citizenship. Therefore I cannot support Barack Obama, even though the media would love me to. I will not listen to everything the media tells me, I will do my own research and make my own decision. And my decision is McCain/Palin.

It saddens me to read so many 'so called Christian' comments that justify political contenders' (Obama) non-biblical principals. Do any of them read the Bible? What does the Word say? Isn't that our standard? Don't we need to take a stand for righteousness. We are truly living in the last days.

I am actually disappointed in the fact that you would use your publicaation to try and convince not only people, but Christian people on who to vote for in the election. I am so tired of hearing the McCain is a "real american hero" line as if he was G.I. Joe. I am tired of hearing that Obama does not have any experience. David did not have any experience, but somehow he became king. Moses did not have any experience, but he led the people out of Egypt. I am certainly not putting Obama on the same level as these great men of God, but at some point they were given the chance. Mr. Strang you are entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion you should not preach politics. If it is for McCain to be president, then so be it. If it is for Obama to be president, so be it. Don't use your media outlet which was intended on uplifting our walk with Christ into something to support political parties.

On the basis of this endorsement, I shall be unsubscribing from all Charisma email newsletters. I cannot support any further continuation of American belligerence where there is a credible alternative. Although abortion and homosexuality are important issues, they are single issues on which Obama may eventually see the light. This seems to me much more likely than that the Republicans will ever see the light on global inequality and the root causes of terrorism and global conflict. If subscribing to Charisma implicates me in support of the American Right, whether religious or otherwise, I don't want a bar of it.

I have read the article and I respect your decision to vote for McCain, however, I am deeply saddened that in all the reasons that you have used to justify your vote, that you never once suggested to your audience to continue to pray for both candidates and seek the wisdom of God on how to vote. While many other individuals have endorsed their candidate of choice and are free to do so; you have a responsibility to your audience. Many look to you for spiritual guidance, I implore you not to be careful in the way that you speak. The voice that you have been given is not to be taken lightly neither must it be used foolishly. I will caution you in the days ahead to be extremley careful with your interpretations of the way in which you understand this process. Your first responsibility is to please God. In the future, encourage the people to pray, seek the face of God. Let God guide them for we understand that promotion comes from God and God is neither republican nor democrat. He is God.
Please leave your personal feelings out of this. Because we recognize that this article was clearly that, personal.

Steve,
Some of those anonymous posts are by the same people, evidenced by their writing style.
Anyway, I was absolutely against McCain and Obama. I wouldn't probably vote for either, but I'd love Sarah Palin for a President/VP. I have many friends and clients in Alaska and they've said only great things about her.
Frankly, I would almost tell people to find a way to go back and start all over again. I'm not willing to vote someone in that would sign any kind of legislation that would eventually affect our rights to preach the Gospel, even the part against homosexuality. By the same token, John McCain seems old and out of touch. Just my opinion. If I'm forced to vote, it would be McCain because of views. We as Christians must learn that we are our profession. I am a Christian and it affects everything, EVERY thing in my life, including who I vote for. Another thing about that, if I was a candidate and had the nerves to say I believed Christ was the Way, then I couldn't support, or sign legislation that went against the core of who Christ is.
Come on people. We are ambassadors for Christ. It's time to pray and seek the Lord. I don't believe you did the wrong thing, Steve. I believe, however, that this is going to be a huge deal for everyone voting. Christians are now going to be put to the test. Who are you, REALLY? Show me what you believe.

Obama's lack of experience should be the #1 reason we say he should not be the LEADER of this great nation. I do not support abortion or big government, but I do believe this country is mostly run by our legistlative system. I want a man/woman of experience, integrity and honor at the helm. One that will spend time before the Lord seeking wisdom. If Obama has indeed stated that Christiantity is not the only way to heaven, then he seems to not know the 'truth'. McCain has my vote.

After reading the endorsement, my initial thoughts were what took so long? It is impossible to support homosexuality, murder, and coveteousness and call themselves a Christian. I repeat IMPOSSIBLE!
Furhtermore, I'm completely dismayed at so many of the responses that I've read. Where does this ignorance come from? You'd think people have never opened their Bible before or never read a history book.

I am an Australian and follower of Christ. All I ever hear from the US Christians is abortion, gay marriage and guns. Nothing about invading other countries, poverty, healthcare, nothing - just these 3 issues. There is more to life than these 3 issues. I support Obama but I do it from my opinion and not because evangelicals say otherwise.

First of all I am a subscriber to Charisma and will continue to pay for it and support it until the Rapture. I am not surprised at your endorsement of Senator McCain. As believers we know that Abortion and Homosexuality is an abomination. However, so is Racism, Poverty, Unequal Pay, yet the Christian right focuses on the two sins that are between the individual and God. John McCain, cheated on his first wife, lived in "sin" with his current wife, has called her publicly a vile name, Mrs McCain has been arrested for drug usage, yet these are the "family values" that we are to look up to. God has forgiven John and Cindy McCain, that does not mean that He wants them in the White House. Be careful Charisma in your endorsement, it is more important that God endorse you, than you endorse Mr McCain.

BENNFORT,
I am a christian by the grace of God, but I cannot agree with you on the issues you raised. The republican party are all hypocrites. They hide under the cover of religion but commit the worst artrocities the world has ever known. Bush led us to war for his selfish reasons, while thousands of lives has been lost in that war, Bush and his cronies are smiling to the banks with oil windfalls and no bid contracts, meanwhile I have never read your condemnation of the war. Some of you republicans from the church leaders like yourself to the politicians are worse than the infidels. How can you claim to love God when it is hard for you to love and care for the poor around you day and night, cutting taxes for the super rich and neglecting the poor. Please stop this issue of homosexuality and abortion, afterall Bush campaigned on both issues, what did he do, nothing.
I will vote for OBAMA and nothing will change my mind. You can target feeble minded fellows like you who can be easily swayed, but as for me and my likes, NO WAY! NO HOW!! NO McCAIN!!!

Kudos to you, Mr. Strang. I have been a McCain supporter from the start for the very reasons you covered, but I am even more so now. I am an executive, a wife and mother of 4 young children and I am appalled at the media & others' chauvenistic response to Gov. Palin's nomination as VP. When just 6 months ago we were hearing that the nation is ready for a woman to be President, this backlash against Sarah Palin exposes their own secret prejudice. I am looking forward to receiving my October issue.
