Support Hagee by going to Washington
This is a very strange election season. Who would have thought last summer that Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama would be their respective party nominees? Didn't the media nearly coronate Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton as the nominees?
You may remember that I endorsed Gov. Mike Huckabee to be president and I still hold out hope that he may be the vice presidential nominee. I will write about this in an upcoming Strang Report.
But now the focus is on John McCain who received and then rejected endorsements from two friends of mine--Pastor John Hagee and Pastor Rod Parsley.
When McCain wanted and needed to win both the Texas and Ohio primaries, he was happy to get these endorsements from Hagee in Texas and Parsley in Ohio. But then when Barack Obama's radical former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright became a controversial figure in the election, some liberals looked for controversial clergymen who backed McCain to use to blast him. They latched on to Hagee and Parsley.
I may opine about Rod Parsley in a coming Strang Report. He's well known as a lightning rod (no pun intended) and much of what we believe about God and the fight against good and evil makes perfect sense to us in our churches, but to the unbeliever it sometimes sounds like nonsense. And there are enemies of the gospel who are actually opposed to merely speaking the truth. Look at the attacks on those who preach what the Bible says about sexuality.
But with Hagee I think the attacks go beyond them merely misunderstanding to being downright unfair. That's because Hagee is being called anti-Semitic--a charge so wrong it borders on being ludicrous.
When I heard these charges I had a hard time believing it. Hagee has done more than any other Christian in our generation to show love to the Jews and to stand strong with Israel. Yet he made one comment, taken out of context about Hitler, that some liberal blogger says makes him anti-Semitic.
That makes me mad. First, the comment can be explained. He was searching for reasons why a loving God would let something as horrible as the Holocaust happen. And he said something about it was what God used to give the Jews back their homeland in the Middle East. That doesn't justify the Holocaust. But it is true that the entire civilized world was feeling guilty after World War II for the atrocities against the Jewish people. And in this groundswell of sympathy, Israel was created by the United Nations less than three years after the end of the war.
Meanwhile, a quarter century later, a young pastor went to Israel as a tourist and came home a Zionist. That is how John Hagee described the experience that has propelled him to do more and more and more to help the Jewish people.
Not only has he given away more than $30 million to Jewish charities, but he has inspired many like me to do the same. I'm only just beginning, but I've been responsible for raising $400,000-- a pittance compared to Hagee-- for Israel and it is a direct result of his example and influence.
It’s well known that John Hagee started Christians United for Israel which is the largest Christian pro-Israel group ever established. I have the privilege of being director for four southeastern states--Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. So I have seen up close and personal all the time, money, blood, sweat and tears that has gone into this organization.
Now the third annual "summit" in Washington DC will be held in about six weeks from July 21-24. I plan to be there and I hope you will too.
John Hagee has done so much for Israel and the recent attacks are so unfair that I hope there is a huge outpouring of support for him. If you hadn't planned to go for any other reason than to show your support, I believe it would be a good thing-- as the Jews call it, a mitzvah-- to support Hagee by going to Washington.
We need to make the naysayers sit up and take notice at the outpouring of support from the Christian community for Hagee. Already the Jewish community has come to his defense. And Senator Joe Lieberman, a Jew, will be at the Summit and has been defending Hagee. Click here to read the statement he has released.
My longtime friend Mike Evans is as mad about this as I am. He fired off the op-ed piece below about Hagee. Take time to read it since he has a somewhat different perspective than me.
And take time to go online to register for the CUFI Washington/Israel Summit in July at http://www.cufi.org/. You can also write Pastor Hagee a note of support on his website http://www.jhm.org/.
I know he'll appreciate it.

John Hagee is No Anti-Semite
by Mike Evans
John Hagee is no anti-Semite. The secular, liberal, God-hating media has been obsessed with Pastor John Hagee, insinuating that he condones the Holocaust and Adolf Hitler’s actions.
I have been a credentialed Middle East journalist for more than thirty years and I am very familiar with the games the secular media play, especially during election years.
Anyone with a brain knows that when you have a liberal Democratic presidential candidate, Barak Obama, whose pastor Jeremy Wright has, in fact, made numerous anti-Semitic statements, the strategy of the liberal Left media is to find a conservative, Republican-supporting pastor and use him as a scapegoat, no matter what the truth is.
John Hagee was the perfect candidate because of his unapologetic Christian Zionist stand. The truth is, being a Christian Zionist is the only thing the media could accuse Pastor Hagee of with any credibility; but of course, that is old news.
You can’t be a Christian Zionist and be anti-Semitic. That would be akin to being a card-carrying member of the KKK while marching with Martin Luther King, Jr.
The first time I heard the name John Hagee, I was in a meeting with Prime Minister Menachem Begin and his senior advisor, Dr. Ruben Hecht in the fall of 1979. We were discussing the subject of Christian Zionism, naming those who were the strongest Christian supporters with whom Israel could build a bridge.
Dr. Hecht brought up John Hagee’s name and expressed how impressed he was with him. He said Hagee was a very strong Christian Zionist. I did not know John Hagee at the time, but realized Ruben Hecht would certainly have done his homework before making such a statement. Later, Christian journalist Jamie Buckingham met with me and said, “I want to tell you about John Hagee and his uncompromising love for Israel.”
Jamie Buckingham and Dr. Ruben Hecht were right about Pastor Hagee. His support for Israel has become legendary.
As Chairman of the Board of the Corrie ten Boom House in Haarlem, Holland, a locale made famous by the book The Hiding Place and the movie of the same name produced by Dr. Billy Graham, I have spent an enormous amount of time defending the Jewish people and combating anti-Semitism. The Ten Boom family gave their lives to save 800 Jewish men, women and children by hiding them in their clock shop during World War II. Three of the family members have been honored by Yad Vashem in the Hall of the Righteous Gentiles in Jerusalem: Corrie, Betsie and Casper ten Boom.
To accuse John Hagee of being anti-Semitic is as absurd as accusing Casper, Corrie or Betsie. If they were alive today, I am certain they would be speaking up in defense of John Hagee.
To accuse John Hagee of being anti-Semitic is as absurd as accusing Martin Luther King, Jr. of being anti-Semitic. It was Dr. King who said,
“You declare, my friends, that you do not hate Jews, you are merely anti-Zionists. And I say, let the truth ring forth from the highest mountaintops. Let it echo through the valleys of Gods green earth. When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews. Zionism is nothing less then the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land.”
Truthfully, the secular media hates pro-Israel Christian Zionists and John Hagee has become the poster boy for that hatred because of his organizations, Christians United for Israel and his Night to Honor Israel Conferences.
Anyone who stands up to the liberal Left media as Hagee has done in defense of Israel is labeled as ignorant, evil, racist and a bigot. The vast majority of the media are secular humanists and liberal democrats. They make excuses for evil, and even worse, deny that evil exists and refuse to confront it.
How in the world can the media sell such stupidity when a pastor has founded the fastest- growing, pro-Israel coalition in America that combats anti-Semitism and lobbies for the rights of the Jewish people?
Before President Ahmadinejad’s last United Nations appearance in New York, his spiritual advisor told me that Ahmadinejad likes Jews; he just hates Zionists. It is more believable to call Ahmadinejad pro-Israel than it is to call John Hagee an anti-Semite.

Concerning your article, John Hagee is not an Anti-Semite and support him going to Washington, I agree that we need to support Pastor Hagee. I also believe that their should be some accountability as well. Why did John Hagee feel the need to endorse John McCain and not Mike Huckabee? Why are we quick to endorse a candidate because of their party and not who God wants us to endorse. If we are truly concerned about God's will being done, we would seek His face and ask what His agenda is instead of our own.
John McCain’s denouncement of those endorsements is a slap in our face. John Hagee said that our greatest danger is "Osama, Obama and Bin Linden". Is this coming from God or man? God will hold Pastors accountable as well for what we preach, who we endorse and our reasons for doing so.
When I saw Pastor Hagee endorse John McCain and not Mike Huckabee, my jaw dropped. I thought, what in the world is going on. God has given us a candidate, but we endorse someone else!
We need to Pray Before We Vote! We need to seek God and ask Him what is He saying at this hour. John McCain wasn't forced to denounce those endorsements; he did it for political reasons. I'm seeing a double standard here, one for the black church and one for the white.
I urge God's people to seek His face and listen His voice so we won't be deceived.
I thank God for what Pastor Hagee is doing in Israel and I pray for success. I stand with Him in this cause. However I am praying that we will be careful about whom we endorse in the future. Many politicians are using the church as their political marketing strategy. John McCain was fine at accepting the endorsement as long as "our leaders" were guaranteeing him the Christian vote. When he felt that he would isolate a larger group than Christians, he rejected us. So now, who should we support, McCain or Barack? Only god knows. It's God's choice not man. Jesus Is Not a Democrat or a Republican! Jesus Is Lord! God will use who he wants to use to do His will. What is God's focus during this election? We've had 8 years to overturn Roe v. Wade and deal with moral issues. Maybe, just maybe God wants to deal with social issues because the poor, needy, widows, blacks and other represented groups have been neglected.
Be careful and hear God's voice and put His agenda before our own.

To unbelievers and to many Christians too, Rod Parsley is a Christian screamer: he screams about things big, he screams about things little; it is his chosen style of delviery. And, unfortunately, he comes off as one of the biggest ego cases on Christian TV. Sorry, Steve, even if he is your friend, some of us prefer good, solid teaching without all the screaming, without all the emotionalism that he deliberately stirs in his audiences. If I were running for President, I wouldn't want to be associated with him either. Like you suggested, unbelievers would think I'm a nut case--just like Obama, for associating with such a pastor as Rev. Wright. As for John Hagee, all I can say is God bless him. I am sure he understands that he is a victim of politics and the schemes of the Devil. Yes, there is a great spiritual war going on in the unseen, and manifesting in the seen, in this election. At stake is the richest, most powerful nation on earth. Hagee is, indeed, one of Israel's best and strongest friends; and he goes right on supporting them. Sometimes, I wish the Christian supporters of Israel were more concerned about the Jews' eternal destiny--meaning their salvation in Jesus Christ--because they seem to shout about every else but that... Nevertheless, Israel is the root, like the apostle Paul says, and we Christians are the branches; and I am sure that God is using Christians in His plan for Israel in these end times. So go John go. Shrug off the policital offense of McCain, sparked by Liberals who were using you as amunition against him. As for McCain, sometimes you do what you have to do. If it is a matter of McCain or Obama for president, I will vote for McCain a thousand times over (if they will let me). We Christians must not get confused about this. We must not allow the great liberal Obama to take the reins of our nation. He says he is a Christian, but I do not see the fruits of it. A Christian for abortion? A Christian for aiding the spread of homosexuality? Where is the evidence of the Holy Spirit and the Lord's values at work in him?

John Hagee obviously made a regretable comment. The holocaust issue is so difficult and sensitive. Just as difficult is how we can explain 2000 years of Jewish suffering.
What few of us (and I am Jewish) want to do is to read our Torah which speaks of great judgments for disobedience.
My answer for the why of the holocaust can only be answered by the mixture of the wickedest of anitsemitism coupled by the fulfillment of some of the saddest prophecies in the Torah.
The establishment of Israel indeed was a positive result of one of the darkest days on the face of the earth.
God's will for Israel, as for all His creation, has always been blessing and that we not endure such horrendous suffering. Our responsiblility is to walk in His light and protection.
Our problem with Hagee is his theology concerning the salvation of our people. We have wih horror, read of his views of a double covenant. Such a view may seem to be a loving stance toward Jews but may be the most anti- Jewish stance of all.
The advocates of the double covenant say that the Jews can have a right relationship with God through the first covenant and without the need for Yeshua-Jesus.
We Messianic Jews tenaciously hold to the scriptures that say there is salvation in no other name.
Nobody can deny John Hagee's role in helping our people. Yet, while finances and friendship aid immensely, our primary need is to be reestablished to the very God that Christian Zionists rejoice in.
Is there another way to know the Father than by the One who said He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?

I would have to agree with shmub that Hagee uses poor hermeneutics to justify the 2 covenant view. Furthermore to say that God got Hitler to create the Holocaust based on one verse in Jeremiah is again very poor hermeneutics. However I can see where he is coming from which is his Calvinist mindset. His interpretation has not only put him in shame but also the deterministic view of Calvinism.

I want to modify my statement that John Hagee is an advocate of the dual covenant theology.
I have not read his works sufficiently to understand his theology fully. He has made some unclear statements about the spiritual status of a Jew that has not embraced Yeshua.

I also agree with shmub that Pastor Hagee needs to clarify his stand on what appears as classic dual covenant theology. I would go further and suggest that perhaps before rallying support for Pastor Hagee, Steve Strang needs to prayerfully consider and make a Biblical response and stand on the compelling commentary by Pastor Rick Joyner of Hagee's views and ask his friend Hagee to do the same. To my knowledge, neither of them have. Rick deeply appreciates what Pastor Hagee has done and loves him but doesn't mince words doctrinally. As a Christian and minister I had no issues with the comments of Pastors Wright, Hagee, or Parsley. But as ministers we should all refrain from political endorsements period. Too many Republican Pastors are in the wrong for this open and frank support. Hagee, Parsley, or any Pastor should not endorse any candidate but should just support getting out to vote. I think it's wrong and the government should challenge their nonprofit status.

I am beginning to wonder what Charisma is about really, after reading the magazine for years.Jeremy wright is often incendiary, that's not news. John Hagee's hermeneutics with respect to Hitler is questionable. The church should be the pillar and the ground of Truth, not a theatre of partisan politics. The commander of the Lord's army was neither for nor against Joshua, remember? He is for the Lord, only the Lord (Jos. 5:1-14). Unfortunately Mr Strang appears to be a republican first and foremost, and his allegiance is apparently not for the Truth. True christians rightly condemn abortion propaganda and all liberal corruption of our moral values, but pharisees do, as well. If our righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the pharisees, as the Lord requires (Mat.5:20), we must stand always for the Total truth. Now, Mr Strang, have you publicly rebuked brother Huckabee (as Paul did peter, Gal.2:11-17), when he made that insensitive, inconvenient joke (see Eph 5:4), about Barack Obama being shot? i suppose that is against your party's interest.

McCain Denounces Pastors Hagee and Parsley
Okay Christian brothers and sisters, this has been a world wind week! Tapes are now surfacing about Pastor John Hagee and Pastor Rod Parsley's comments. Both are mighty men of God. I always say that if I want a loved one or friend to get saved, I would put them in front of John Hagee or Rod Parsley! I know they will be convicted and accept Jesus as their personal savior! They know how to reach the soul!
They have both endorsed John McCain and now that the messages have surfaced, messages that many of us are used to hearing, everyone is in a frenzy! Now McCain sought out their endorsements and gladly accepted them. Remember, this is how the election was won last time because of the evangelical Christian vote! The Republican political strategy was to court the church and get the vote! This strategy worked! The Christian vote has become a political marketing strategy and many of our leaders have embraced right-winged leaders and denouncing left-winged leaders.
Now, we have two candidates who profess Christianity. One has an outspoken Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the other has accepted endorsements from outspoken Pastors, Pastors John Hagee and Rod Parsley, all men of God. Now, all Pastors have their view of world events and politics from a spiritual perspective, but we have seen how the media has replayed those comments in an endless loop! All I hear is "chickens flying back to the coop!"
Now, I'm curious to see what the response will be now. Senator Obama had to denounce his Pastor's views so he wouldn't isolate patriotic Americans and Senator McCain had to denounce Pastor Hagee and Parsley's views so he wouldn't offend the Catholics and others. I see so much denouncing going on, I don't what the candidates stand for anymore. Are they denouncing the word of God? Because that what these Pastors are preaching, the prophetic word of God. God says in His word that His word is foolishness to those who do not know of Him. Many are taking quotes out of context. That is why it is imperative that we test the fruits to see if they are of God!
I believe God is allowing the egg to be put in our face as Christians because we want to make one Pastor wrong and others right. We want to endorse our candidates instead of God's candidates. We have our own agendas.
We can't be loyal to a political party, our race, or our gender. We, Christians, have to be loyal to the word of God! Everyone has their own agenda. We have to ask God what is his agenda. We missed the opportunity to put in a Pastor, Mike Huckabee. Christian Pastors did not even endorse him, the very same Pastors that endorsed McCain! What are we doing? When I saw this endorsement on television, I gasped! How could Christian Pastors not endorse Christian Pastors. What is really going on? What type of backroom deals are being negotiated to make us to go against God's appointed people? We need to check ourselves!!!
What are our motives? God is watching us. This reminds me of how God appointed a leader to the people but they wanted their own. God gave them their own and the people suffered. So now, we will have to live with the choices we have made. Our seed is our vote and we have sown seeds that we will have to reap for four years. I pray that our Christians Presidential candidates will not denounce the word of God. I pray that as they have professed their Christianity to get their votes, they will be doers of the word and not hearers only.
Let's stop the hypocrisy and pray before you vote.

From a non-american viewpoint, I would like to share my thought with you. It is not my intention to defend or citicize on what has happened in the saga.
First of all, should we as Christians or influence which is accorded to some leaders in Christian communities or ministries be used as political gain? It is obvious that non of the potential candidates for the candidacy has the heart or the intention to follow God's Laws in his actions. Don't these ministers know that their endorsements are seeked for political gains?
If they do no know that their endorsements are seeked for political purposes, then they are very naive and if they knowingly allow their endorsements to be used for political gains, then they deserve all the flak that they received.
Anointing is given for the growth of God's kingdom and not for political manuvering. It is no secret that NON of the candidates opening dare to speak against same sex unions! Why! It will kill their political future! Why are the pastors supporting them when we know that the family is the main foundation of God's strength. I'm very sure that most of us know that the devil is attempting to wreck the church through the destruction of individual family units.
Perhaps we should use our anointing and influence to develop ministries which will further God's kingdom than messing around with politicians.
God Bless

I have to side with McCain on this one. High profile Christian pastors seem to think they speak for ALL Christians - this is absolutely not the case. In my surroundings these brothers have done great harm to our mission.
Most folks I talk with see no love, no compassion, no understanding of the complexities of civil government from the TV pastors. Power and naivete seem to rule the roost. Jesus died for the WHOLE world; he does not want just a small piece of real estate on the eastern Mediterranean. Yet after listening to these guys you'd think the kingdom of God is just Israel and the US.
Jesus loves the people in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi, Iraq and Iran. Until the love of Christ is extended to all the nations from these pastors, no politician in their right mind would even dare to side with my brothers.
I will not go with Hagee. Nor do I believe should anyone else not a part of his local church.

As I posted on Friday afternoon but for some reason my posting did not make the cut or was to truthful to be allowed to see.
Both Hagee and Jeremiah Wright was simply wrongly represented in the media. I don't belive that Hagee is against Jews but I also don't believe that Jeremiah Wright is anti-American. Both of these men of God simply told the truth. However, what I'm amazed at and don't quite understand is how can Steve Strang asks us to stand behind John Hagee without also asking us to stand behind Jeremiah Wright. Sometimes the truth may be harsh but it will set you Free. I can't say that I agree with Wright's delivery however, he simply told the Truth about America. I'm sadden to see such a racial divide among those of us who have been given the task of representing God's people to the World. I would challenge you Mr. Strang to respond to this blog and explain why the support should not be solicited for both Mr. Hagee and Mr. Wright. They are both great men who has done a lot to repesent Christ and are thereby both our brothers.

As a Jew (not a Christian), the son of Holocaust survivors and a resident of Israel, I find it both incredible and appalling that anyone could have the chutzpa to accuse John Hagee of antisemitism. I read of a certain American Jewish leader who called Pastor Hagee "dangerous" because he held the wrong political opinions (i.e. not his critic's). But I wasn't aware that he'd been made the victim of so vile a charge. Most people of faith here in Israel have no trouble recognizing those whose hearts are with the Jewish people. It's not as if the Holocaust doesn't raise terrible questions that every believer has to struggle to understand.
